Ok, truck quit running, but re-started and son limped it home 1 mile.

I found carb body screws loose and re-tightened it seemed okay but was stumbling a bit. Took for a test drive and worked okay but still stumbling on acceleration.

Died completely pulling into driveway and would not restart. A shot of starting fluid got it running and limped into garage sort-of.

Bought a rebuild kit and found several small pieces of hardened gasket material (I think) floating in various parts of carb.

Cleaned it all up and blew out passages, new pump, new gaskets etc. (Not real good with carbs though, a bit of a mystery)

Re-assembled and truck will not start, doesn't seem to be getting much gas.

At fuel inlet I was getting good healthy squirts of gas into a cup so fuel is getting up there.

Took carb back apart and do not know what to do next. Float seems to be operating okay but will stick sometimes if retainer is pushed in too far. But that would FLOOD the carb right?

It is definatly a fuel issue as starting fluid fires it right up and i was able to recheck timing when I had it running prior to last test drive.

Any help available in the St. Louis, Missouri area? Or online here of course?

Make sure the needle and seat are new and the float is new and a new high quality fuel filter. Old floats can swell and rub when they get old.

New fuel inlet fitting with integral needle and seat came in the rebuild kit, I can blow through it with the float down but not as easily as it seems I should be able to.

A brand new filter was installed fairly recently to replace a leaking one.

The float is not new and is the closed-cell foam original type I think, but feels light, does not appear to be fuel-soaked.

I may pick up a brass float just for $hits and grins and double-check for a clog somewhere?????

Went through the carb again and found a few problems, all is working now.

Now to take care of the intake/exhaust leak due to using the cheap felpro gaskets. Time to tear it down again.......

Glad you got the carb working!

If your going cheap use a Corteco.......for a liitle more you can get a RemFlex. The Remflex comes with two thick gaskets, one for the hot box. Felpro's just don't seal as well if anything is warped or not perfectly true and super clean.
