Do you have to have a set of fenders and a hood on a car to run at the drag strip? Do you need any lights? front or rear? Just thinking ahead for Mason Dixon.

I have seen guys make passes with cars with the front end off, but you may want to check with the track.

There used to be a rule that you had to have a hood on a car with the engine driven fan.

Rulebook says you have to have at least one red light on the rear. Headlights are optional. :D

I will be using an electric fan so I may be Ok. I will check with the track and see what they say.

Thanks,

Rick

I would say it has alot to do with the track. I think the rules say the car must look presentable.

That is a NHRA rule that is basically enforced at "Major" meets. Most tracks, on the weekly races could care less what the car looks like. Just have the entry fee. I run my 66 Valiant without a hood, and have not been questioned. I do have an electric fan, however.

Yes, alot of times it is up to the track tech department, and sometimes they are not that savvy on the rulebook anyway. (i.e. seat belts in a slow car with a bar)

Some of the tracks I have run at allowed things that were in no way safe.

I saw a guy running a 350 transplanted into a Duster, and they removed the firewall. Worst I've seen. This was at Wilkesboro 5 yrs ago. The guy could have reached over and run the throttle blades with his hand.

Also saw a guy running a 34 coupe at Carlsabad, CA around 140 MPH trap speed, and his seat looked like an aluminum lawn chair...
