Only suggestion would be to invert the oil filter, so oil will not run out when you remove it.

Oil will not run out of his oil filter when he removes it. It's a replaceable-element filter. The lid unscrews and you lift out the old element, use a turkey baster or somesuch to suck out whatever old oil is left in the housing, drop in a new element, install a new lid gasket, and reinstall the lid. It would be much messier if he were to turn it upside down.

Hi 1966DartConvertible.

Very nice, if your engine runs as good as it looks, you should be very pleased with the result!

Questions:

I can see that you had the same setup on the engine earlier, but to me it seems like those oil filter lines are very close to the hot exhaust manifold? Has that given you any problems?

Why the different mounting of the alternator bracket? Will not that position make it more difficult to adjust the tension of the drive belt?

Hi Ken,

I did nothing to the alt bracket and oil filter - came from the factory like that in '66 for the RHD market as the normal oil filter would not clear the steering mechanism in a RHD car. As for the bracket, i just send for sandblasting and painted black...

Take a look at your own photos, unless you have another engine, the curved alternator bracket is not mounted in the same place as before.

good looking motor. If those are Dayco "Top Cog" belts they are on incorrectly.

Sorry I must be getting old, the alternator bracket was fabricated by my engine builder. As you can see, the old bracket "squeezed" the radiator hose and i dont know how the engine did not overheat before... but now hopefully its corrected :)

I have been following your project with great interest, and enjoying not only the fore ground but the other project cars in the back ground at the shop.

I have seen parts of a Ferrari, Corvette, Rolls Royce, and a few others that won’t surface in my mind at the moment. Is this your shop, or a classic car restoration shop you have commissioned?

No no not my shop, i seek help from this guy who is the only one familiar with American cars (He has a '67 Impala and a '69 Vette, to name a few). There are probably about 8 (EIGHT!) Classic American cars that are in running condition at the moment here in Malaysia (out of about 2 million cars!), and one of those is my Dart! well soon to be running...

His charges is quite expansive but I guess you pay what you get eh?. As you can see from some of the pictures, his job ain't that bad. He looked thru my old engine and told me what parts to order etc. I dont have the proper place/tools to do up the job properly so I thought might as well ask someone who knew his stuff.

(Btw I never said Im the one doing up the engine - I just said its My engine hehehe)
