Replacing the vacuum hoses in my stock 1981 B-150 \6 Van (details in signature).

Wondering whether there is any advantage, such as longevity and/or better performance, with silicone or other not-stock vacuum hoses, or whether it would be a waste of $ and better to just use stock-type rubber hoses.

What say you?

Thanks as always!

The stock rubber stuff lasts a long time and is not expensive. In high temperature applications where loss of a vacuum hose can mean a blown engine (twin turbo RX-7s come to mind) silicone hoses are worthwhile. I really can't see blinging out a van engine.

From a longevity (and somewhat aesthetic since there are different colors available) standpoint, I use silicon. Regular rubber will last years if it's not exposed to high heat though, so as long as your hoses are in good condition, it doesn't matter really.

I get the vast majority of my hoses and specialized hardware from http://www.mcmaster.com
