I'm tearing down my carter BBD for a rebuild. When i removed the idle mixture screws ,One was longer than the other& Had more taper than the other. The shorter one was broke was able to push the tip back w/ a pencil eraser and it fell out. In all my diagrams it shows them both to be the same. WTF?
Any one else run into this ,Does this matter? I am ordering new ones If they are the same i will reinstall in correct locations. I did document which side had long & short,Can anyone HELP!!

They are not original - or at least one of them is not, when you get the new ones, you will see that they should be of equal length.

They should both be identical. A good carb kit from Daytona Parts will have new needles in it (and a redesigned inlet needle/seat for better fuel control)

I should have known to check with the expert's here first. I will remember Daytona from now on. I suspected as much about the screw not being original. brings to mind not to buy reconditioned.
In youth we learn in Old age we understand. I think this site is by far one of the best I have come across for information.
Once again thanks to all of you here at Slant Six .

Just an update. Still trying to get screws from Daytona Parts. The Long Screw will not interchange in the base w/ the short side . Kinda figured thats right, makes me wonder what I got from the rebuilder all those years back.
