I have a '69 Dodge Dart Swinger. Ever since I got the car the reverse lights won't work. Brake lights, turn signals and parking lights work perfectly. Neutral safety switch works perfectly as well.

Any suggestions?

I need a little info about your car. Is it a standard, automatic transmission, and dose it shift from the steering column, or floor?

I got a ticket for that once with my '68 Dart.

If it's an automatic with a column shift, you'll find a little switch down at the bottom of the steering column, near the brake pedal. This switch is activated by a tab on the column.

Check it... on mine it was a simple adjustment that got the switch to make contact when the shifting lever was in reverse. Once I adjusted it the lights came back on nicely.

Of course, their could be other things that cause the lights not to illuminate...

wjajr, the car is an automatic with the shifter on the column.

Slanted Opinion, I crawled under the dash today and found no tab. I was looking for it around the break light switch above the break pedal, but no dice. Perhaps somewhere else?

On a 1969 the backup light switch is on the transmission. It is incorporated into the neutral safety switch. The switch will have 3 wires on it. The center wire is for the neutral safety. The two outside wires are for the backup lites. One wire should have 12 volts on it and the other wire goes to the rear backup bulbs.

Charrlie-S, I know the light switch is incorporated into the neutral safety switch, but the switch is working fine. I checked for continuity and everything is fine. Perhaps the problem is somewhere in a wire.

Do you have 12 volts feeding one of the outboard wires on the switch?

Silly question, did you check the bulbs and sockets?
