The OD may be a little weaker but I think it is still plenty strong. Just my opinion. I have never seen an actual "factory" rating on the torque capacity of the regular A833 or the OD.
The only way it's weak is the fact that in the "normal" boxes 4th/direct is locked together, in this box 3rd is locked together instead and OD does not, which places stress on the aluminum box and the countershaft when in this gear...(For this reason when I "drag"...I get it to 3rd and ride the tach to max rpm...)

There are a few big block guys that run the iron version so they don't stress the aluminum casing, they use OD for cruising or highway.

I think the box is tops at 300hp+/- (I don't think it was ever an option behind the 360 in A/F bodies.)

Does anyone sell stock replacement sfi approved flywheel (122tooth) or do i have to buy the 122tooth v8 one and redrill the crankshaft bolt hole on the flywheel, is that my only option for a new strong flywheel?

Kevin the following is from an old post (2005), Mcleod Flywheel.
Quote:
Flywheel (listed for a slant six) - #464001
That number may or may not be available, but is dose not hurt to ask. If you decide to get one you might as well have them drill it for another pattern while they make it. I don't think they charged me any more for that. But you definitely need to specify which size center hole registry you have. Ours came through with the small hub and it was supposed to have the big hub. This happened more than once. Let us know if it is still a good number and the price.

Rick

PS. It may be worth asking him about a group buy?

RMA'd my pressure plate in....they said it was in good shape and the "bluing" was typical for kevlar clutches, I could use emery cloth to
remove it from the pressure plate surface....but one of the fingers on the diaphragm was tweaked, so it's a new pressure plate...

They've offered me a return buyer discount on a normal pressure plate...of I can send them a flywheel to have drilled and matched for a super clamp pressure plate that's not mopar pattern but 9.5"....

I told them, I'd think about it over the weekend...

Hey DI,

Always good to know what PP they are recommending? What application is the 9 1/2" one for? Good luck.

The reason I ask, is spec is gonna make a 9.5inch for a pretty good deal because their looking for some feedback on the clutch he said the stage3 + holding power is 585ft lbs. i'll be putting the 4spd back in next week or depending on when i got my clutch. The problem is i'm a little worried to send spec my stock flywheel again and hav them make the clutch. I feel like i should get an sfi flywheel for this motor and have them redrill that flywheel for the new clutch to help my toes not get blown off maybe. Jeremy tells me this clutch will be alot more streetable then my current clutch because it's without the super clamp option and it's a full face disc.

Fantastic the new spec clutch disc is wrong it's 25 spline and my trans is 23 spline unless i miscount but either way the disc doesn't fit on my 833od input shaft spline. So i'll be calling them monday wish i woulda tryed the clutch disc before trying to put the trans in what a waste of time i didn't want to get the clutch dirty so i left it wrapped up until today.

Sorry, but this doesn't look good to me. They should make it right immediately if they want to save their reputation. Hope it does work out for you.

Well, Jeremy seemed apologetic, and said the new disc would be shipped today and sending me a prepaid box to send the disc i dont need back. The disc was 24 spline so needless to say it wouldn't fit I bet this clutch is from something like a 350z maybe? since Jeremy said it was a nissan based clutch. I was a little frustrated saturday night when i discovered i would stil have to walk to class this week since my trans wasn't going back in, but mistakes happen and he's seemed eager to make it right so i'm still cool with them. The clutch does look awesome it fills the entire flywheel edge to edge i'll have to remeber to take a picture of it. I used a bushing from the v6 dakota per Charrlies advice so i won't be using the brass pilot bearing i do have, the dakota bushing seems the better way to go since it actually is a bearing instead of just a solid piece of brass.

The punches keep on coming the second disc is wrong also, it has the correct spline but it the wrong disc i ordered a full face stage 3 + disc this one is a pucked disc and only stage 3. All i can say is wow 2 wrong disc ina row so now i won't have my car fixed until early next week because for somereason he can't finish the disc and overnight it to me by tommorow or saturday, i can't even be frustrated this is such a joke i wanna know where my free t shirt and my tour of the factory is lol to get my confidence in Spec back.
Hopefully 3rd time is the charm

I have to admit using a dopey " Let out the clutch at low revs ,,,,,,,,and hammer it" launch method.

Sandy, That is a wimpy way to launch!! :D
To each his own... It depends on your priorities. I made the same choice with my daily driver Mustang 5.0 for over a decade-- because I had decided upfront that I didn't feel like repairing abuse. More than 1/4 million miles later, the original clutch was still holding strong. (!) To me, that was more important.

Not fun to drive that way? Naw, I found it plenty of fun. 8)

It's even more fun now, in a stealth station wagon. Unlike the old days, when even the slightest chirp of the Mustang's tires would win the prize of a roadside conversation... in a wagon, the cops don't even look twice. Not that I chirp often. My sole enjoyments are rocketship passing ability, getting up to speed on expressway onramps, and then cruising quietly. I must be getting old.
