I used JBQuick on the last one I did. It held for several years of daily driving.
I quit using that carb as the throttle shaft was too sloppy. It was on my carpet van for years.

 Post subject: T.Q. on a slant six.

I did the T.Q. on a slant six conversion for a friend of mine. I started with a late smogger 800 cfm and an adapter. The carb was mounted on a Dutra Hyper Pak intake with the carb front facing the engine for best fuel delivery.

Incidentally, I also built the engine and the owner used a set of 1.55 ratio RAS roller rockers. The cam is the MP 268-.460 solid cam.

It was 'tricky' to get the carb to work with such a radical intake and a lot of mods were done to the T.Q.

Also I finally had to use a divider wall in the adapter to get a good, steady vacuum signal to the intake plenum.

not on a /6 but I have typically had great "luck" with TQs on smallblocks; but the older I get my patience to "set one up," went down the toilet.

I made some ThermoQuad links in the FAQ, under Carter carb manuals with jet and metering rod sizes, one useful intro is Vaanth's 'A Carter Thermo-Quad Guide', which also lists most of the different TQ numbers.

Good to have demon sizzler here, welcome! Are there any plans on updating the thermoquads.com site, or will it slowly disappear into the virtual sunset?

BTW, is this the SL6 picture you was looking for? http://www.thermoquads.com/page223.html, scroll to bottom of the page.
(I kept the link in my old 'Slants I'd like to drive'-file!)

That is the pic; I did not try to 'link' it since it is off my site with other pics.
I don't know exactly what I will do with the site. The control panel is harder to use than the original so reworking the site is more difficult.

Will likely just make the site a technical reference only, David.

Someone posted that they did this several years ago. Might've been a 318 thermoquad. Did you try search function?

looks like slanters have used a TQ
I have removed the stock carb bolts and set in my mind corectly our 440 TQ on the stock intake..it looks very impressive .I have my old school AC buzz box..I have use lo hydrogen rod to weld on cast iron back in the day..Im thinking of die cutting the stock intake to outline of our 440 TQ, then welding/fab'in a steel plate box in place..any thoughts..Image

but you would want to turn that TQ 90* from how you show it, for best fuel distribution.

but stock intake runners are varied in length to start. there will never be an optium fuel distribution mod'ing a stock intake. the only positive I see is stock short intake would create more low end power, and a 225 is a low end motor. I have welded a piece of steel product on one of the outside of one of the long runners 6x1 inch plate to see if product/intake/my skill welding is enough to do what I want.(I havent welded cast inon with an AC buzz box since 1978 and that weld went to daytona/key west fla and back to Maryland that year..rocker arm mount on my 1946 knucklehead /which motor I still have.)I sprayed starting thinner on the back side of the weld to see if it leaked as the weld looked like bubble gum...it leaked/second pass no leak....any other thoughts?
will look again @ layout on carb/intake too.

While I am a Carter fan I do not like the TQ. The other leaks they get are when the fuel bowl (black plastic piece) warps-which after this many years most are. When you have one a part make sure that it has flat and level edges-sand/file as needed.

It seems to me it would be much easier to pick up a 1 barrel aluminum intake and weld the mounting plate on it. Welding steel to cast iron or even just welding cast iron has produced lots of failures. My 2 cents.

I hear you. but this is what i have and the trial plate is very strong on there, there are no cracks from heat/the weld looks like snot but no starting fluid leak (sprayed)from the back side...Im going to study this as I don't want to wast mopar parts that end up like dogshit, I don't mine it looking primotive but it must work.I posted this thinking someone had been down this road and get some feedback from them.
any thoughts out there?

ps I did put a 1968 TNT 440 into out 1977 Dodge Aspen (installed a 1970 six pack carb/intake) I had to cut the stock chrystler 300 /440 TNT exhaust to clear the steering/power prakes..I cut/welded hobart DC stick machine /that and it held street/drag racing turned 13.45/104 in the 1/4 @ 75-80 through the mufflers 3.91 posi/radial tires/3500 stall/reverse manuel valve body.

I have over 40 TQ's. None warped or cracked.

I guess there is some somewhere, not in my shop.
