Run engine in per cam grinder's instructions (usually 20 minutes with varying rpm over 2000rpm for the last 10 minutes).
Change oil+filter
Drive 100 miles-varied driving style be somewhat 'gentle' on the engine.
Change Oil+filter-check for metal flakes or contamination in oil...
If all is good some cautious guys will do a 500 mile regular daily driving/varied driving (highway/in-town/country drive), then change oil...
If you are in a "flat" area like me start driving it like normal and check at
3000 like normal, then drive like you want.

Yes, bad idea. You really need to accomplish the cam break in procedure at a minumum, and change the oil and filter after it's accomplished.
Skipping this can result in rapid cam and lifter failure.

For best service life, try to adhere to a schedule similar to the one DusterIdiot outlined. Going a bit long, or cutting it short depending on time and opportunity is OK, just avoid any extreme adjustments to the schedule. Once your through the first 1000 miles, you can get on a normal change cycle.

Me... I get the engine running, keeping the RPMs up over 1000 while I make sure there are no leaks & check to be sure all the push rods are spinning.
Next I do a couple of heat cycles, then retorque the head and re-adjust the valve lash. (in that order)

Set the timing and take the vehicle for an easy "around town" test drive and make any needed repairs / adjustments... based on drive observations.
Recheck fluid levels & drive the vehicle easy for a few hundred miles, change the oil and drive it like normal. (that's means "aggressive" for me)
Done.

most new oil do not have zddp in the oil zinc. Make sure your cam manufacture recondmends what oil to break the cam in with. Or what additiveto use. Thanks Ron Parker :D
