ok got a problem i have a new battery and i have plenty of power to start with. now im just getting no spark although my coil is brand new with new plug wires and yet no fire i believe its the resistor but not sure... help please!!!

Do you have points ign, or electronic?

Your ignition switch bypasses the resistor on "start". If the resistor was bad it would "start" but not "run". We need to know what ignition you have-points or electronic.

points and it cranks and get juice too the coil when key on but not sure otherwise.

If you unplug the center wire from the dist cap and hold it 1/8" from the block do you get a spark when some one cranks the engine over?

Check the power to the coil with a meter or test light. One side should be about 12v, the other side will be about 12v when the points are open and 0v when the points are closed.

Chuck's test is the right way to go. Use a light or an analog meter (not a digital one) to see the change as the points open and close.

Remember, just because the coil is new doesn't mean it's good (though usually it is).

As Mac pointed out, if you crank the motor with an analog meter or a light hooked up to the points (distributor) side of the coil, you can watch the voltage change on the meter or see the light flash on the test light if all is well.
