some time ago I picked up an aussie speed 2bbl and 350 holley to put on the D-150,, along the way I also got a mopar M-1 and a holley 2280,, in case the hurricane did not clear,, in the process of fitting the external parts, to have that out of the way when the rebuild commences,, it looks like the hurricane / 350 carb will clear, having a cable throttle helps, won't have hooks ups for canister vent, egr,,, but maybe that is just how it will be,

certainly power will be better with the 350,, and the hurricane will just look awesome,,, any thoughts on economy comparing the 2230 350 cfm and the 2280?

What's the goal with this truck? Unless you are building an exotic race truck, shoot for lower-RPM torque, not higher-RPM horsepower.

I would measure the size of the runner passages in each intake and run the intake with the smaller passages.

I have an 83 Dodge van factory built with a 318 and a 2280. If your truck will be a daily driver, I think the 2280 will be the better carb

I like the M1 mostly for the exhaust heat. Unheated manifolds, even aluminum ones, warm up slowly. Several bad things come from cold mixtures including poor drivability, increased fuel consumption and increased engine wear.

the truck is / will be a nice weather day / tow vehicle / fun truck kind of driver,,
planning to go with dual Dutra's, for manifold heat, I can always add the hot water pocket under the plenum,, I really don't see that truck being out in much bad weather.
and yes I have a cam and build plan that emphasizes low rpm torque,,

You just answered your question.

Is it a daily driver? -no.

Does it see rain/salt? - no.

Does it see temps below 50/60 degrees? -not normally.

Will your build support the induction system? That is the question. Knowing you - you will triple check this and run computer sims!

Will you fiddle fart and tweak? - yes.

Are you runnin' a stick? - yes.

Can you regroup if you fall on your face? - yes parts are there.

Do you have Zilla's bat phone number? - yes.

Do you have friends to commiserate/gussle beer with? -yes.

Do it man! I will help! Run the hurricane and the 350!

As long as the damn thing can make it to KY and TN you are good.

Am I an idiot? Quite possibly. But we'll sure have fun!

Either setup should do good, all though one may do a little better than the other in certian area of performance.

IMHO either carb can give good fuel mileage if tuned right with the 350 giving a little better power. The parts for tuning the 350 are easier to get though. Plus you can tune parts of the 350 that you cant on the other without going to extreme's.

One thing you have is plenting of clearance, this allows you to try things like spacers which can help in more than one way depending on what they are made of.

IMHO I would try both setups. But I would try the Auzzy first, which is the one I think willl do the best. And with the right tuning it should give as good a fule mileage as any other except in cold weather. And even that can be helped if needed.

The Hurricane and 500 2bbl on Project V have excellent low-mid range, but give up some on the top end. I think your 350/Hurricane would be great on a truck...

Best thing is to bolt it on and try it. Experiment is king...

, I do like the analysis and the experimentation part,
and with that I am leaning towards starting with the M-1 / 2280 combo and putting the aussie / 350 back on the shelf for now.

along with the intake and exhaust improvements, there are another 9 other separate projects on the list, the motor, re build tranny, add AC, fix the body, re build front end, clean - paint frame, suspension upgrades, complete wiring, dash upgrade,,,

I have ran the 2280 on the existing intake,, its nice and good to go, the M-1 will be a more straight forward swap,, give me time to get get the dutra's and exhaust lined out,, so then I can get to the next item on the list.

thanks
DT

You wake up and realize the best option is an Offy and 390 Holley.

For a daily driver street driven truck, I say stick with the 2280 and the M-1.

Ya know Lindross runs a Offy/390 set up. Stock exhaust - very mild cam - seems to suit him well!
