I just got my "new" '62 valiant home! :D Car is complete but ROUGH! 170, 3 on the tree, originally white paint, lots of mouse smell, dents in all 4 corners, rusted out rear quarters, lace floor. When I get a cable for my camera I'll try to post some pics.

Sounds like a project (and a half)! There's a surprising amount of repair sheetmetal available for these, but you have to beat the bushes to find it. Much of it is more available in Australia than in North America.

Congratulations, my brother and I had restored two of those Valiant's, my father's four door sedan and a two door first Acapulco mexican version, of the last one I posted some photos in july last year. I have been using the Valiant Acapulco for the last two years as a daily car, and I'm very happy with it, I use it to travel most of the time to Cuernavaca a little town near Mexico City and I enjoy it so much, when we found the car it was a "kicked can" but we work in it for three years and the result it's great, what I like most is the performance of the car with the 225 slant six and the twin one barrel Offenhauser manifold. I post you some photos of my father's 62 Valiant, this car it's almost original, My father bought it new in 1962 and have more than three thousand miles, we have paint the car three or four times, was our first car in which we just try the hobby of painting experience and try to restore cars, We only change the front seats and the steering wheel, both from a 1966 Valiant Barracuda, it also has a central console from a 1964 Dart, it's orginal for A body cars. The slant six 170 motor it's the original of the car. If you like the photos I can share with you some information about the cars. I hope you will enjoy fixing yours, greetings from Mexico City

Beautiful job, I like the color as well! Your description of the car as a "kicked can" is an apt description of mine as well. Poor body work, rust, abuse, neglect, vandalism have taken there toll but I like the body lines, and I want to see how far I can go on improving the mpg. Any tips, tricks, info will be appreciated! By the way, mine does not have those things on top of the fenders, are those turn signal indicators?

Got the engine to fire today! :D "new" starter that was on it was so worn out it had ~1/8" slop in the pinion shaft on the driven end. For some reason it would not crank good! Bought one from a Dodge Diplomat, it's a compact unit and looks like it should work good. (cranks faster than the old style one in my p.u. as well!) The carb needs cleaned out, no fuel from jets or pump. (not surprised, 22 years since last tagged)

They're 1960 (-only, and only early-production V200s at that!) fendertop ornaments. No turn signal repeater function; that didn't come to A-bodies til '66 (Barracuda, optional).

Looks like an awesome project to me. I love the early two doors. I wish I could go the full 'pro touring' route with my'63 Dart but it's not in the cards(or wallet) right now.
Keep us posted.

Really cool car! Mine was very rough when I got it and I've had more fun learning on it than I ever would have imagined.

The fender trim that has my father's car was used in the v-200 of 1960, although the version of us is a V-100, we got the fender ornaments and my father put the trim in the trunk that is of a 62 V-200 version, I can now see pictures of your car, it looks pretty good, just missing the bottom hopper front that can be achieved in a junkyard quite good, the rest are just rust panels, the grid is in good condition this is a great achievement, side trims and as I also discuss previously the decoration of the trunk is the 62 v-200 four-door version. Versions 61 and 60 were simulated wheel with different ornaments. The stainless steel trim around the cabin it is just like the one of the Lancer GT. I know that In 62 the two-door sedan Valiant only present in version V-100 (without ornaments) but not in the Lancer, what for me is very rare in your car is the low door trim (it's the first time I saw in a two door sedan  ) because it is like the V-200 four door version and as you know the door in your car is larger. The person who had that car transformed it to a V-200 version using trims of Lancer GT and a four door V-200 or maybe is a rare version of a two door V-200. All of the Lancer GT trim in Mexico were used for the first version of Valiant Acapulco, we were unfortunate not to reach Signet hardtop models in our country. I think the car can be restored with patience to a quite original one but do not change the concept of the trims, original or not they are very cool 8) . In your valiant dont use the fender trims this were only used in four door versions in 1960. I post some photos of my Valiant Acapulco V-100 it has Lancer Gt ornaments and the interiors of the Signet US version, also I post you some brousure images and other Lancer photos so you can see what I'am talking about, maybe this photos will help you in some way. Congratulations

That's one sharp car! Thank you for all the pictures, I can see some of what I'm missing.
