You buildin' a car again?? Hope so...

I have used many cams. Depends on application/usage/budget for buildup. Tell us more about what you're trying to do.

I've got an old Clifford .558/300* that I bought used from Mike. I'm relatively happy with it. :D

Yea..

I've sold off bunches of stuff and I'm trying to get back into the game.
I've ported a head but have not shaved it or upgraded the valve sizes.

Aiming for 11:1 compression build with a 2800 pound car. Less when I get happy with the sawzall. 4.56 gears and the typical 904 auto. Headers and Weiand intake. Common hot rod /6 stuff :D

But I think I want "some" streetability"...

11:1 on pump gas, do not go lower than 240 or 250 @ 0.050" duration. My '64 Dart has 250 @ 0.050", 106 LSA, 0.510" lift. I am about to try a new grind from Oregon Cams (250/243 duration (I/E), 105 LSA, 0.500" lift). Streetable in my book...

Is 11:1 doable on pump gas?

If you pick a fair duration and watch the overlap event, and use the DCR calculator, then adjust the timing/distributor recurve. It's very doable...I ran a 10.3:1 engine that would run on plus (with a few degrees of timing adjustment I could use regular or super, depending on race or daily driving).

The DCR calculator can subjectively show you what grade gas you may need to use with your build... (general rule of thumb 7-8DCR=regular, 8-8.5=plus/super, 8.5ish-9+=higher octane, there are some other variables that will move the rule around a bit).

While I was out of country, I had a dry erase board that I doodled and tweaked an 11.5:1 long rod build that worked out to using plus/super
(I think the day Rob Simmons visited my office, he thought I was translating some ancient Sumerian performance texts...LOL)

I dropped my compression from 11:1 to 10.7:1

With Premium pump gas, no ping with the RDP version of the Erson RV15M at either compression ratio. Too much compression for that cam profile. Power shut off above 4100 rpm due to profile characteristics.

Currently, with an OCG 34, 250°@0.050", it can ping with premium pump gas, plus the odd booster additive. If you want to run pump gas, back off on the cam. I'll be working out what doesn't detonate in my combo. The power of the high overlap cam is too good.
Add to your equation my 4.475" Stroke. That makes a big difference.

im sorry but you can run regular in a 9.4:1 motor all day(even @ the track)... did in my slant for almost two years before going to 10:1(now on premium)

and was running 32* total timing...

up 9.6:1 SCR with the right cam=regular no problem...9.6:1 DCR is not going to like anything but super+
