G'day, just after some advice on water pump & oil pumps.

Firstly the water pump. If I run a Davies Craig electric water pump, can I remove the impellor and also cut off the front where the shaft comes out and blank it off for a clean look? I'd like to be able to remove it all together but don't think I can.

Lastly the oil pump. I'm going to be running a supercharger, roller rockers etc. Do I need a high volume oil pump, and if so do I still undertake the anti-cavitation mods on it?

Cheers Guys

Do a search on this message board for "electric and water and pump" to get some good postings on electric water pumps other members have made.

As for the oil pump, what is the "anti cavitation modification" that you want to do.

Me, I do not trust the drive gear on any aftermarket oil pimp on the market, some are made of cheap cast iron that wears-out fast, then the gear teeth "strip-off".
See this article for more information on the SL6 oil pump.

There is a photo of a stock water pump blockoff plate used in the marine SL6 on page 2 in this link.

Without hijacking this thread; if SlantSixDan reads this, it would be interesting to view the engine side of that blockoff plate, if there is a photo available.

Olaf.

Sorry, one last question - is the marine water pump block plate still available and if so where?

I doubt very much that you can get hold of one, that is one reason why I want to see the inside of the blockoff plate!

There is also a glimpse of a blockoff plate in some of the photos here, I think it was made by the owner.

Olaf.
