Does anyone else ever wonder what happens to all the carb mounting plates on our 4-barrel intakes? Over 50% of them I see for sale do not have them on them! Anyway, They are not cheap if you go to Offy or Clifford to buy a new one. So I just make mine. I keep my eyes open for cheap 4 hole spacers and then I just make one. I first drill the 4 mounting holes that mount it to the intake. The one inch one shown here allowed me to countersink the holes and use allen head bolts. Then you need to get some threads in the holes where the carb mounts. I went to the hardware store and picked up some of those inserts that can be crimped into place in a sheet metal panel. They are 3/8" OD with a raised knurl on the end. So I enlarge the holes in the plate to 3/8" and drive them in from the bottom. then you can use bolts from the top or screw studs in. The only downside is that the bolt size is 1/4" instead of 5/16". Not a big deal to me.

Total cost for this Red anodized one was $12 including the plate. Plate was shipped to me for $8 and the inserts are $1 each. Poor mans carb plate. :D

Very nice indeed, Rick!

I'm a really poor man, so I'll make a plate to fit a 2-bbl Motorcraft on a 4-bbl Offy manifold, while blocking off two holes, using marine plywood. They are made with good resin, and can be painted to look like metal if necessary.
I always think it is better showing the wood, and to add a couple of bent nails on the outside, just to confuse the enemy! :lol:

The one on Bill's Offy is an adapter plate we did the same thing with, except his had threaded holes in it already.

I picked up a Spectre 1" spacer still in the plastic at Spring Carlisle for $5. Didn't really need it but you never know when you might find another manifold without a mounting plate! :D

Yep, I always do that too. Not sure I've ever seen a good one on an Offy intake. They are made out of some kind of cheap pot metal or something, which bends easily.

I have one of the Offy plates...sadly they only allow mounting the carb one way...I ended up using my clifford plate (since I had a spare)... :lol:

I have turned mine side ways on my Offy. Never ran it. Even mapped it out to mount a spreadbore.

I have a 1" thick piece of some type of aircraft plastic to make an adapter out of too.

Instead of those threaded inserts, you can install 5/16 helicoils. That is what I do.

I thought about that also,just use a heli-coil. But I think the inserts are actually a better choice,as if it "strips" its easilly changed for a good one without much fuss, or drilling/retapping.

JMO of course.
