What type of MPG's have you achieved with the Mopar mild cam?

How does cam timing effect MPG's? I have 2:76's gearing in my 74 4 door Dart.

I have a rebuilt slant BBD . I think I am going to use an aluminum 2bbl VS the iron one.

In my experience, cam choice doesn't affect mileage that much. Matching engine parts well is the trick. I've gotten 17 MPG with that cam, and 25 MPG, depending on other motor parts and tuning. My personal best MPG (25-27 for 1500 mi trip) was with a BIG cam - go figure...

BBD is great for mileage, if tuned right.

Vac advance is essential for good mileage. Shoot for 50 deg total vac+mech and about 30 deg total mech.

When the car was running it was getting 16.7.

I wouldn't think there is much tuning on the carb. Only way I can jet AFAIK is richer. Idle mixture adjustment I do with a vacuum gauge.

I will be running a straight pipe to start with. Hence the name "Fart Dart." It didn't sound ricey. Wasn't that loud. I may go bigger in the future.

BBD has an adjustment for the metering rod step up, which can make a huge difference. When I bought Slantkota, it got 14-15 MPG hwy, then adjusted that linkage inside (w/carb on motor) and it went up to 19-20 hwy.

Yes! I forgot about that adjustment! Most of my BBD's are the air metered earlier models. Totally different top end on the carbs.

I am sure there is an adjustment on the metering rod tree with the Allen head screw.

Yes there is - I've been making 1/4-turn adjustments to make sure it runs right, but it did have an effect on MPG when I drove it from Green Bay, WI to Minneapolis a few weeks ago. However, when I got better MPG, it kind of hesitated when I took off, so I might have to sacrifice a bit of MPG for proper running.

I got about 14 - 15 MPG at best by calculating the actual miles driven, not what my wrong odometer reading. That was going about 70 the whole time, with a bad header collector gasket (had to fix that in a hotel parking lot - lots o' fun. . .)

I'm running a Carter BBD from a 318, Clifford shorty headers into a true dual exhaust (I know some of you will rip on that, but I like the look, sound, and performance I gained from them), ported/polished head shaved .020, Comp Cams 252 - all on a 170 if you didn't get that from my username and a pushbutton slushbox.

Are you just adjusting it to factory specs or are you doing something different that works better?

I never do anything to factory specs...

I adjusted so the rods would not step to the richer section until a lower vacuum reading, so yes it was a bit leaner on part/mid throttle.

I also probably made a timing adjustment to get that gain on Slantkota, but the BBD adjustment was needed.
