Smoked number 4 piston, at elk creek. When I got home I drained the fuel tank of race gas, as the car will have to sit for a couple of months. I think I may have found the reason for the failure. To drain the fuel, I disconnected the fuel line from the nitrous system, and put it into a "jug", turned on the fuel pump. The fuel comming out of the line is very airated. I think I am sucking air somewhere between the tank pickup, and the inlet of the fuel pump. This would show as still haveing good fuel pressure, but would cause the nitrous system to run lean. Will look further in the next couple of days.

I hate it when that happens...

So now... when someone asks: "what are you smoking?" you can honestly answer back: "pistons!"

Did it burn a hole in it or break out the ring lands?

Yes, lean is mean, right up until it breaks.

Looked at it this morning. The rubber line between the tank and the filter (before the pumps) is shot. It actually has the fabric showing.
Dennis, I don't know exactly what it did to the piston. Won't have a chance to pull the engine apart, for at least a few weeks. Have to get my 66 Valiant ready for Knoxville, first.

This car is right at the B/C nitrous weight break. I'll try for another record, up there.
