I checked with him -- no soap; he sold the complete wiper setup from motor to pivots! He also told me the '67 cars have a one-year-only wiper linkage setup with bronze bushings throughout…I'm tempted to say that'd be the hot setup to go for, but at this late date the bronze bushings are likely worn, too, putting the '67 setup on par with the '73-'76 setup which has easily-replaced nylon bushings.

Thanks again Dan. Likely many of these old cars are now in the same boat, with seriously worn wipers. Many folks are likely out there looking for the same stuff. I suspect the bronze bushings are less worn than nylon though.

I still have not crawled under the dash, but looked in the FSM to see the diagrams there. Here is what you can tell from out side:
1. Both wipers move independently of each other.
2. YOu can hear the passengers side is dragging it's link back and forth when moved.
3. The drivers side is silent when moved.

It seems as if both the link from the motor to the driver's side, and the link from the driver's side to the pass side have come loose. The good news here is that all these connections are in one spot over in the most accessible corner.

I will get the courage to tackle this soon. And maybe engineering a good fix using the old parts is the easiest way to go, meaning I will not have to get the links out from under the dash. When I first got this car, and the links broke soon thereafter, I do not remember resisting the repair. I was 48 instead of 66 at that time. It makes a difference.

No sweat Rod, you just have to empty two more buckets, construct with 2x12’s and pair them up. That should be enough for someone up to two ax handles wide… LOL

Those are exactly my dimensions ,including the trips around the sun. I win by another six times. Seems that Sam and me are the same age.

My '68 cuda has 73-76 wiper parts on it,but you'll probly have to change the wiper motor too.The output shaft changed sizes about '71-72ish on the 3 speed wiper motors for sure.The crank arm is different because of the two sizes,and 2 and 3 speed arms are different too. I probly have the parts you need

That's a nice offer bigslant6fan. Let me look under the dash soon, and let you know how my plans are shaped by that. I may take you up on it. When you say you have the parts, are you talking late stuff, or 68-69 ish?

I took the front seat out, and lay under the dash and took a look. NOTHING was broken. There were no failed bushings. All the plastic was good, or at least together. The repair I made 18 years ago was to the link at the motor eccentric. That was still there. It is ugly, but it works.

So, I popped the links back on, and tested it all, and they seem to work. I pried with my hands to see if it would come off, and it seems to be good. I tested the drive with the motor, and it works OK. It is still a bit noisy, and clunky, but that is more than likely the jury rigged repair I made years ago. There AI drilled a hole through the pin on the motor eccentric and put a cotter key through it. I think it will stay.

Four questions:

1. Am I asking for problems to just let it go at that?

2. Any theories as to why it came apart? Both links were off the driver's side. I think the power link came off first and then proceeded to thrash around under there and pop the left right joining link off.

3. Has anybody else experienced this? Parts popping loose with no apparent damage to the plastic bushings.

4. Any recommended lubrication for this, or will that induce popping off connections. Under the circumstanced, looking at everything upside down and through a maze of wires, I cannot tell for sure what holds these together. I could not look closely at it. And the FSM did not yield much insight.

Sam when I installed new wiper seals, I lubricated all pivot points with white grease, which made for much quieter operation.
