BTW:
How is your fuel pump performing, have you measured the output? It should give one quart in a minute or less at idle.

Vacuum at the pump suction side, should be at least 10 inches at idle, with fuel line removed at carb.

If you have a see-through fuel filter; any indication on the condition of your fuel tank's inside?

Is the ventilation to the fuel tank in working order, or do you hear a 'sigh of relief' from the tank when removing the cap when the engine is at it's crappiest?

Olaf.

How do I measure the fuel output?

How would I measure the vac at the fuel pump while idling?

Don't have a clear filter, but I replaced the last one after about four months cuz it clogged.

I'll have to try the fuel cap but the vent should be working. Idk maybe the charcoal canister clogged it. One of the lines I had pulled off was clogged so maybe that was too.

Fuel output: remove line at carb, add some length of hose to safely get the fuel away from engine, start engine and let a friend hold fuel hose into some non-sparking container that holds at least one quart, start the clock, and shut engine off after one minute (or earlier if the container fills up fast!)

If output is OK, chances are that vacuum is OK too. However, if you have a vaccum meter, simply hook it up to the suction side of the pump and start the engine and take a reading.

Re fuel pump/fuel tank: oh yes, I had some real fun last fall...

Olaf.

I'll check that vent then. Things I have done so far to try and solve my problem, tried both my 1945 and 1920, took both apart cleaned and blew out all holes. Checked carb mount gasket, filed carb bases and manifold down nice and level, replaced module from a chevy it worked a little better, not as hard to start. Could a hot module cause all of this? I have a big heat sink but with a black hood it gets pretty hot even when I haven't run it all day.
