 Post subject: backfiring...timing off?

hi guys. just put my engine back together ,225 slant 6.in my 85 dodge van. i need the firing order and what not because i think eather my spark plugs arent set rite or my timings horibly off. what is the firing order front to back of the head?? oh its having a realy bad backfire ?

?

.p.s just chekd my timing 3 times with info i found online ,maybe theres a pushrod sitting rong seems liuke a exhaust valve is staying open?

When you set the cam (gears dot to dot) #1 & #6 pistons will both be up, But cam will be set for #6 to fire. Try setting distributer for #6 to fire.

i didnt get that far into the motor i only rebuilt the heads.i checked to see if a valve was sticking but its working smooth.just keeps spiting fire out of the exhaust plus a bang?not even sputtering

From front to back 1 2 3 etc firing order is 1 5 3 6 2 4. It is distributor going clockwise number 1 is at about 4 o'clock position.

yes all correct.still backfiring,not sputtering ?not even running enough to play with.if it does make a difference.i did do cap n rotor and a msd ign coil.ballasts are new .power reg is new.i did 8 mm marine wires with champion plugs.think its too much? i have a double barrel carter too.so i think itl run sweet once i figure this timing problem out.

p.s it also has a aftermarket cam .dont know wat it is ,i didnt put it in

:shrug: I have no clue, could be something wrong with any one of the things you have added (haven't had any good luck with champion plugs), go back to where it was last running. :!:

found it!. my #1 cylinder is about 1 o clock on the dist.all good now .runs like a top
