Ok so I have a factory peg leg 7 1/4 rear end in my dart. Well the other day I was leaving my driveway which is gravel and I accidentally gave it too much gas and did a quick burnout before backing off the gas but I looked behind me and there were 2 lines of fresh kicked away gravel, can someone explain to me how or why this would happen? Right after it happened I jacked my rear back up to make sure I dont have sure grip and the tires turned opposite directions. I've heard that if the sure grip unit is worn that it will act like a peg leg. Is this just total bs? Should I just take off the inspection cover?

Thanks,
Seth

I have heard/seen this happen just before a dif. went bad. Everything loose& worn out started acting like a posi unit then it went BOOM!!!
With it being in dirt everything mat be okay. Listen and see if you hear gear whine and other noises. 7 1/4 is a weak rear end. Mine exploded a while back and I am looking to rebuild it.Started whining spider gears went out.

Mine ocassionally cluncks super loud on the 2-3 shift with no gas. It scares my friends some times :) maybe I'll pull the inspection cover and see if there is a nice amount of shavings or broken teeth in there.

An open diff will often spin both wheels where traction is limited.

The one in my Duster would spin both in the water at the dragstrip.

Never went BOOM! either.

Maybe we can figure out this noise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THvge7qkYiI at 0:04 it makes a faint whining noise. Maybe that could be it? I noticed that my rear end had a lot of slop in it also.
