When I drove an old F150, I belonged to a forum online, and many guys there swore by the stuff. It helped with my truck I hunk. Safe for a slant 6? Anyone used it? Any good/bad stories?

Take a step back…what's the goal? What's the symptom or problem you're hoping to address by adding stuff to the fuel tank?

I used it on my truck. Slowly poured it down the carb. Blew out a decent amount of white smoke but not nearly as much as people claim. Couldnt tell any difference in the way the truck ran but I did it just to help pass smog. I just gotta get back to work on it and take it in.

From my experience it helps, but just take the carb off and clean it yourself! That way you know the carb is clean and if the problem is still there you know that isn't a dirty carb.

I've done it to help clean up the carbon in the engine. Put a little in the oil couple weeks before an oil change and rockers looked better, not as much gunk on them.

I have seen back in the day neighbors get a hair up their ass and try this/try that and then the motor is a part in the trunk/then it gets towed away.

go slow/ figure out any issues..you may just have an old worn engine...

"Miracle" potions occasionally work, but most often they are an attempt to cure a problem that requires elbow grease and parts investment to fix.

That's what makes them so attractive, though. The idea that I can make problems go away simply by twisting a cap is a notion that sells a lot of juice.

(And alcohol, for that matter!)

If its anything more then a slight build up of vanish in the engine or carbon on the pistons your hoping on a miracle in a can-only hard labor(tear down ) and harsh chemicals will clean up a sludge bucket-(think about it-if that stuff come loose,wheres it going to go inside the engine?).But as a normal preventative maintence its not bad to do once in a while before doing a oil change-but just a a normal maintence to keep it clean.And yes I have tried them all- sea foam-risoline-ams oil engine flush etc.... they work to just remove the very minamal surface amount of dirt.You need to worry about adding a zinc additive or run high zinc oil more then adding a cleaner.

Thanks for the opinions. No specific problem, just curious. I think the F150 folks use it to clean injectors, fuel system, etc. Like someone above said, just clean the carb and work your way from there. Thanks guys!

Just to clean carbon off piston tops and combustion chambers?

Look no further that your kitchen sink. Water will steam clean them.

Mopar also makes a combustion chamber cleaner.

Water works for me too instead of Seafoam. I just use a little water/alcohol injection to keep things nice and crisp.
It is on a separate valve so I can regulate flow or turn it off. The engine runs crisp, quick starts and instant shut offs!

Interesting all seafoam is from most to least pale oil, starter fluid, rubbing alcohol, and water. The oil probably is what makes people keep buying more?

I've used the seafoam spray before, it stopped my D150 from pinging everytime it hit third gear and the converter locked in.

I just shot some down the carb with it running until it stalls, then let it sit for 15 minutes. When you start it back up be sure to tell your neighbors so they won't call the fire department.
