hello everyone here , I am glad I have found this site. I purcased a 1969 D 100 a couple of weeks ago and am anxious to learn more about it especially the slant six motor. I have been busy doing various searches and reading tech articles, while doing this I read where it is suggested to use NGK ZFR5N plugs instead of the RN 14YC Champions. I bought the NGK plugs and noticed that the electrode sticks out about a 1/4" further than the champions, so is this ok and should I go ahead and remove the washers and install them? By the way the Champions I removed still had the washers on.

The fact the electrode on an NGK spark plug is sticking out further than on the Champion plugs, is the very reason for using it! Apart from being a good spark plug, the extended electrode place the spark in a more favourable position for the ignition process. I believe the general opinion is that it is a very good choice as far as sparkplugs go.

BTW, I forgot to say: Welcome to the forum!

Olaf.

Yup, you're good to go -- remove the ring washers and put 'em in. Additional tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread. Glad to see there's another Ontarian stepping in to join the community; I'm moving out of province in, um, nine days.

What should a set of those set you back? $20? $30?
