I'd like to get one to take apart, put back together, take spare parts from and just get more familiar with them.

How much would I have to pay generally?

People are always getting rid of them on craigslist for a very reasonable price. About $75 for a long block that turns over usually with the stack thrown in with it along with other "goodies" is the going price right about now.

Start to hang with some Mopar V-8 guys. They are always ditching a slant to throw in a small block. If they know you are a serious Chysler fan they will darn near give em away. Gotten 3 slants this way.

Last weekend I found someone had tucked a slant behind the screen door along with a peck of zucchini while I was out running an errand

Very good point here. I have a neighbor that's always dragging some early 60s Plymouth /6 car home and dropping a HEMI or 440 in it. Last time I talked to him he had 3 running /6s in the back of his garage.
Love my slants, but have to admit that his last project, a 63 Fury Wagon is very nice with the built 440.

Yes, I also enjoy the BB Mopars and I'm glad I had a chance to run them back "in the day"... when gas was still cheap. These days... the "care & feeding" those need is a bit much for a "daily driver".
I enjoy the SL6 for the same basic reasons I like the BB Mopars, a basic, well engineered and 'tough as nails' engine that responds well to performance improvements...

Anyways... back on topic, keep asking around... there is a free SL6 out there, just waiting for you to give it a good home.

Did you check the classifieds on this site? There is a guy on there right now that has been trying to get rid of a slant for 6 months now. I think he is in Pa. Look in classifieds under For Sale he is ready to scrap it. Don't let him do that take it!! :tsk:
