This weekend I will be doing a camshaft swap in my brother's van. I will be using an old factory hydraulic cam with new hydraulic lifters.

Question:

When using a used cam with new lifters, is it necessary to do the whole cam break in procedure?

I am pretty sure the answer is yes, but I wanted to make absolutely sure before I spend a bunch of money on oil and filters and assembly lube.

Ok, so 2000 RPM for 20 min using 30 weight oil and lots of break in lube, drain oil, change filter.
New filter, 5w-30 oil, 500 miles easy driving.
Change oil and filter, 5w-30, 2000 miles regular driving, change oil and filter, drive normal?

Or are you saying I just need to slather on the assembly lube and the motor can operate like normal?

Naughty use of punctuation! Okay, so I will slather the lube on my 'shaft, stick it in the hole, and get the pistons pumping. Sounds like a good time will be had by all.
