Yes I have a vacuum gauge I can drive with. What you wanna know? I'll do it..I did look on the arm of the vacuum can and didn't see a number stamped on it..I'll look hard next time I take it off, which I will be doing that today probably, to turn the bracket on the distributor for the timing.

I look at the chart and plotting you did on yours, and don't quit follow what needs to be plotted. I understand the HG and Rpm's, not sure how you calcualte the total advance @ a certain rpm.

1st way , carefully read through "Joe's Spreadsheet
Instructions for Joe's Spreadsheet" in the Recurve thread.

2nd way re-read wjajr's comments to you. I went through this with Bill and he found it very helpful.

You can plot at every 100 rpm or 500 rpm just to get into the ball park.

First column is initial, second column mechanical and the third column vacuum advance. RPMs down the left side at 100 250 or 500 rpm increments which ever you choose.........
The first time through do it with the vacuum advance un-plugged, second time with it plugged in.

Which ever you plotting method you select, Joe's spreadsheet or the quick 15 to 20 minute version that I did with Bill will work.

I see......no stamp on the arm, bummer, but no worries, you can hook up a hand held vacuum pump and figure it out.

I set the timing back 4 degrees to 6 BTDB, and the ping went away..but I still have the noticable bog with full throttle, if I let up on the throttle say about 1/4 the way up, I feel a noticable power gain. Its been doing this on all the different combinations I have been trying so far. It just doesn't like the full throttle wide open bit..not sure whats going on with that either. :roll:

Currently when I've ordered vacc pods no matter what I have ordered or from who I've gotten them from... 2 pods lately are the only ones I get...one stamped 7.5...and they are 15 degrees of advance...or I get ones that are not stamped like the ones that come on Cardone Remans that when tested with a vacc pump they have 20 degrees of advance at the crank...(10X)...with no adjustment possible (turn the allen wrench all you want...the advance is still the same).

Time to break out the hand pump and see what it thinks it is. :wink:

What does it read at 60 mph cruise?

My car averages 18" but can vary from 16 to 20" at steady cruise on the freeway. Our freeways are not flat.....either a slope up or down and windy.

What does the gauge read at WOT? Will it go to zero or stay a 3".

alright,,,took it for a spin and made a video of the vacuum gauge and tach, so you can see whats going on...seems to be running good now that I backed the timing to about 6*. However it still seems to bogging with WOT, and as I let off the throttle it feels to get a burst of energy. Check the video see what you think. I have 54 jets in the secondairies, and 52 in the primaries.

Yes, I enjoyed the show...it sounds pretty good!

A question....what does the gauge read at idle with your foot off the gas? It looked like it read zero a couple of times when you were turning around, but i wasn't sure...
It should read around 18"-19" or more at idle.

I did see it go to zero at WOT.
On the soggy feel at WOT maybe the rear secondary's are still opening too quick. Try a one step stiffer spring.

Glad you enjoyed the ride..the gauge at idle in park is reading about 3HG. thats it. I have the vacuum line plugged in the carb coming from the metering block..wow could this be the prob.

I believe that is the ported vacuum for the distributor vacuum advance. At least it is on the stock Holley 600 on our 72 Imperial. You guys with 390's please chime in here and correct me if I am wrong......

You should find a port with full time vacuum for the gauge.

I believe if you test the port with the blue cap on it below the fuel bowl you will have full vacuum all the time. If true, use that for your gauge.

Potential Problem:
If your vacuum advance pod is plugged into a full time vacuum you will have lots of tuning issues with timing and good acceleration.....please check this out. Your vacuum pod should not see any vacuum at idle. Read page 4 on the four page guide on how to tune your vacuum pod.

Your distributor plots won't make sense either!

Nice shots on the last video. You have done some nice work and should run well once you get the hoses connected in the right spots.

Well is in the right place for the distributor vacuum advance to work correctly. I always thought that the vacuum increased as you excellarated.
