This is heresy, but here goes. I know I will get roasted, but I can't help myself. The BMW slant is what we would like the Mopar slant to be. Many of the what-ifs surrounding our object of affection and love, involve moving the Mopar /6 in the direction of the BMW: Hemi head, flow through, already EFI, short stroke, (ala the 170). I know some guys stroke them, but some pretty serious racers go the short stroke route. There are hundreds if not thousands of after market parts and goodies made for them. If I had a BMW engine, why in the world would I want to back date it into a Mopar slant?

It would be far more doable, and easier by a million times to simply put the BMW engine and tranny in the Mopar. It would still be a slant, and it would have the terrific advantages an in-line six has. There is a good chance even some car guys would not know what you had done. Ok, I have my riot shields up, you can start heaving stones and Molotovs now.

Sam

you echo my thoughts exactly,, if someone wants to work with a: cross flow, OHC, 24 valve, short stroke, alloy motor,, go buy one,, they make 'em every day. They will make more of them tomorrow. And they will be making even more of them the day after tomorrow. Yes anyone can buy a crate motor. But where is the originality and fun in that?

personally I prefer to maintain the original mopar slant six architecture and see what can be done, (and here the book is pretty much open) to make it be, what you want it to be.

regards
DT

your slantzilla, i dont visit much and using the search in the past here has been problematic for me. maybe it is just the forum software or it does it searches differently then some of the forums i visit(computer ones).

sam,
i would do that but then it wouldnt be mopar or the slant six. do have to give it up to bmw for making the power they do from such small engines. though it is just alot of computers to have find space for in some cases for a cramped bay. the newer bmw computers for the engine also control the transmission. the more impressive part to me is the new gen of i6's. they some how manage to make a flat torque from 2x00rpm to 4x00rpm.

i just wonder what it would be like with a longer stroke like the /6.
