Hello, i haven't been on this site in a while but i always refer back to it when i catch a snag turning wrenches at my leaning tower of power :D
Furthermore i plan on starting a ground up build where i need my drive tran as short as possible which leads me to the question. i am aware that the Np435 transmission was available the year my truck was manufactured.
it is the stock drive tran 225 ci/A833od. i remember seeing multiple holes on my bell houseing during a clutch change ..rather than rip it apart to take a look at it and try to match a pixlated np435 bolt pattern picture on my i phone.i was curious if anyone can fill me in with some knowledge.
and what additional parts ill need to make this work.
custom throw out bearing?
different clutch?
linkage?
different z bar?
help help help!

The bell housings with multiple patterns are usually for the 3 and 4 speed transmissions. The NP435 uses a different pattern and bell housing all together.

www.car-part.com

You are looking for a 1978 D-150 with the 11" clutch, 4speed w/o overdrive...

Be aware that the NP435 bell has the low mount starter and you have the bolt the bell on before the fly wheel can be installed...The NP435 is plenty strong for towing, but it is slow shifting and has very granny low and direct 4th...

I used to have 2 examples of this bell one early one with a hydraulic slave cylinder and a 70's version that used a standard clutch fork.

Good Luck,
