Might go look at a slant with an exhaust leak; the owner says a mechanic broke the manifold--and fixed it with putty--while rebuilding the carb. First, the rebuilt carb sounds scary (hopefully it's just parts inside and not that he swapped for a rebuild), and second--maybe he just cracked the (stove box? I think there is a thermostatic spring in the exhaust manifold, controlling the choke) and it's not the typical cracked manifold? I don't think JB Weld holds up on exhaust manifolds...

Yeah, there's no putty that would make a good or durable repair to an exhaust manifold.

I've had a conversation with JB Weld's people, and they said they have had people "fix" an exhaust manifold with thier product, but they don't recommend it, as it's not engineered for those extreme temps.

That's what I thought. Thanks.

i'm not sure how hot an exhaust manifold gets but they claim JB weld can withstand up to I believe 1500F ? I doubt exhaust gets that hot and I still highly doubt JB weld can repair a cracked e.manifold.

From what I understand, it worked--at least long enough to get out the garage door--and perhaps up to the better part of a year. Maybe it works as well as that cement that you can patch up exhaust leaks with. You know, just long enough... and not a moment more.
