With cold weather comes carb tuning, yay! So I wet out to make some adjustments on my NOS BBS that I got a few months back and my electric choke a few months before that. What I noticed is that the FSM and the choke article vary in their recommendations for the vacuum kick adjustment.

The FSM suggests that #22 (0.157" or 5/32) drill can be used to measure the choke opening while vacuum is applied to the diaphragm. The choke article however mentions that it will be pretty much trial and error. Which method will yield better results?

And for any who have that fancy electric choke from CarbsOnly, what setting do you use? I find that their recommended setting was far too lean and hoping others have had similar experiences. If not, then maybe I need to reevaluate my choke setting

You can use the specific spec as a starting point, though you shouldn't have to; the NOS carb should already be at or close to the recommended adjustment for that specific carburetor (it may not be a #22). If good cold startup and running behavior can be achieved at that setting, great. But gasoline today is very much unlike what it was when these cars and carbs were new, so don't be afraid to deviate from the spec. Make your adjustments small; a very little bit goes a very long way.

The electric choke adjustment hash marks seem useless to me; I just adjust them, without regard to the marks, until they push the choke all the way closed when fully cold -- completely but neither too firmly nor too lightly -- and then from there make small adjustments to increase or decrease the duration of choke action vs. engine warmup.
