Oh I am so sorry, did I forget to consult you on my choice of words when referring to an earlier thread?

Maybe I should have used 'discussed', or maybe even 'disinformed'?

Or would you perhaps have preferred that I had asked you to clear the content of those links first?

Olaf.

Do you two ever give up?

Sorry for this display, Kytellan... Glad you are getting good parts.

Kudos to RockAuto. I just received a new cap in the mail without the need to return the other one.

THIS one is black, with Standard stamped on the inside of the cap and the points appear to be copper. I guess this is the monster I was waiting for.

Congrats on the correct part. Yep, Rockauto appears to be a class act.

A nice salesman at the local Federated Auto parts store looked up the "X" cap and extended tip rotor and said that they were indeed still available. I ordered one of each and they both arrived and were not the correct ones. The "rotor" looked cheap and was not nearly as strong looking structurally as the non"x" rotor. The cap was blue/brass but the interior of the cap looked awful. The counted guy pulled their mid grade cap and rotor off the shelf and by laying them side by side you could see the "X" parts were not nearly as good of quality as the cheaper grade. Plus the rotor tips were the same length. So,I bought the cheaper ones.

As a side note I ordered a standard cheap rotor from Rockauto just to have a spare; Guess what came? A black rotor with a extended tip! No kidding. We went ahead and put it in Ryan's Dart

Rick, that was exactly my point in the links I posted on the previous page. Here are the pics again:

Here are some pics of the inside posts in a new Standard CH-410X cap, not exactly 'premium' workmanship!

Image Not much quality control here!

Image All the posts are just as bad.

Image
And this is the inside of an ordinary Standard CH-410, the metal is a bit more yellow, the workmanship is actually much better. When looked at side by side, it looks almost like it is brass in the X-cap, and copper in the ordinary one, there are obviously two different copper alloys used. I have no inside micrometer available to measure the distance across between the posts, I will post the measurements here in this thread if I can find a way to do them.

This was published in a thread named BWD brand - Standard Motor Products. started by CharrlieS.

I got my MO-3000 rotors from dmauto.com, make a search for Part number 'mo3000', and set MFG to 'ech'.

Olaf.

BTW, I bought two CH-410X caps at the time, the other one is just as bad!

Sorry to bring up an old subject, I just picked up a NOS SMP CH-403
for the same price I would normally pay locally for a CH-410X.

Since you were able to swing the deal on Echlin making a batch of MO-3000's, what would it take for SMP to make a limited batch of CH-403's with copper contacts?

Just 'curious'...
