Okay, I am pretty sure there was a vacuum leak, and gas was leaking around the carb base. Actually, make that the carb adapter base. I pulled the carb and carb adapter (Mr. Gasket 2 to 4) as a unit, and there is gas on the manifold surface, but it also looks kind of oily. Is that fairly normal, or is there a more serious problem?
I'll be cutting out some gaskets tonight, and hopefully I'll have her buttoned up tomorrow.

Do you have a baffle for the PCV valve built into the valve cover?

Check in the PCV hose to see how much oil is there.

Do you have boosted power brakes? I've seen master cylinders fail and allow brake fluid into the booster on the vacuum side.

I have manual brakes. I am pretty sure that there is a baffle in the valve cover, being that it is a stock valve cover. I'll check the PCV and see what it looks like.

Hmm, now I'm not so sure. Now it looks more like gasoline around the carb base, and the gasket material looks like it's been soaking in gas. I guess that the gasket material deteriorated?
Now I have to cut out some more gaskets...

Okay, put new gaskets on, bolted everything together, and it ran like crap. When I got home, I put in new plugs (NGK), and she ran much better. The spark plugs I took out were very fouled. It has been cold here lately, I don't have a very long commute at all, and the Weber carb is still running a bit too rich (I think). Anyway, I don't think that I have a vacuum leak, but I'm still not happy with my carb adapter. I'm going to look into getting one fabbed up, this hacked up Mr. Gasket adapter will have to do for now.
I'm also thinking that hotter plugs might help. Thanks for the responses, this site rocks!

Have you got a useable copy of the weber tuning manual for this carb? The internet is full of useless sales information.

I'm wondering if the rich condition is across all modes of operation, (Enrichment Circuits,) or when the carburetor is operating in specific enrichment circuits?

Do you have an A/F gauge?
