The LF697 is the extra super tall filter. Good stuff, but if I were choosing I'd prefer the LF3487 with its more advanced filter media.

I tried to put a Pure PL30001 on my friend's '80 van slant. The factory stand pipe wouldn't let the filter on. It kept bumping something above.

I guess I could have removed the stand pipe and inserted into the filter, tightened the stand pipe then tightened the filter.

No problems on the Duster or the Dart. I even use that whopping big filter on a '06 Grand Caravan 3.3!

Weird. That filter has fit over all the slant-6 standpipe variants I've tried it on. Perhaps there was something the matter with the particular filter you had in your hand, or something screwy with the standpipe.

I used that filter on my 360.

I don't have a slant in front of me to see where that thing hit. He may be selling that van in the not so distant future. 833OD.

He bought it in '96 with 8000 original miles on it. Gotza bunch of miles now!

FYI, Had a 63 Powerwagon 3/4 ton that grandad bought new that had the cartridge filter. Not that it has to do with anything,,Just got me thinking.Now that my brain matter is up and running the engine color was "Yellow". Back then just a farm truck,,Sure would like to have it now.
I was given as a gift a oil filter cutter and have been cutting open lots of different filters. Yes the Fram(orange) has the least amount of pleated paper.Purolator Pure One looks like it has the most.Cheappie Walmart "TECH" filters were a suprise with double the pleats of Fram.Also STP filters.Bosch,AC,Autolite,Mopar internals are about the same.Just about all companys have gone to the wave plate in place of the coil spring now.Haven't found any for a while. I haven't gotten into a Mobile 1 or a K&N yet. I know I'm sick as I go to a local shop and dig through their garbage to find different brands to dissect. Just change your oil often to keep you engine clean.

The Fram Extra guard I cut open the ends were flimsy. I could see the possibility of it collapsing. The Pure? The filtering media was embedded into the ends. It was hard to seperate it.

Just one car crash could kill you dead Dan with out a seatbelt. Trust me there is a difference between dumb and stupid if your dumb you doint know better but if your stupid you know better but do it anyway.
I am a retired firefighter for 30 years and did not get a dead person out of a car that was wearing a seat belt or sholder belt

Ron: Yes, we agree. I was using irony in my comment about seat belts. Seat belts and brakes and oil filters and air bags and collapsible steering columns all share something in common: you don't really need a good one until you really need a good one, and you never know exactly when that'll be, so…get and use a good one.
