i have a chance to buy a rear half for the dutra setup, and it looks to have a newer style choke pocket (its missing a wall, only has 3 sides) my question is i have a 65 valiant, i how do i make a choke work with my car? do i need a different carb, or choke, will it mess with linkages or whatnot.

if i must use electric choke, whats the cost, and hows the install? thanks

You should be able to use your stock choke.

Is you current choke the kind with the 'full pocket' that has a metal cup to plug the hole, and your spring and choke pull off fit inside the cup?

If so and you use a late manifold with a Holley 1920, etc. you'll need the choke pull off for a 1973 Car, or the electric one, or convert it to manual choke.

The '65 choke won't work correctly on the open-side well. The #1231 Electric choke kit will solve the problem nicely. You can also hunt up a 1973 (only) choke thermostat, either the passenger car type with the electric heater built in (in which case you'll also need the choke thermostat modulator -- I have one, send me a PM) or the unheated truck type. Either will hook right up to the Carter carb, but neither is adjustable.

You don't need to change the choke pull-off.

Hmmm. Apparently I am unaware of why the 63 choke won't work with the open choke pocket style exhaust manifold. What is the difference that makes the 63 choke not work?

The bolt pattern is different so it won't sit flat, and with that open sided well the '63 choke coil will heat up too slowly and cool down too fast; the choke will be on much more than it should be and you'll pour gasoline money out the tailpipe.
