Yes, I have some header wrap coming also, so that will keep some heat off of the cable too.

I mounted my throttle cable and kick down cable to the brackets that I picked up at Carlisle. They aren't the most sturdy I have ever seen but they should be Ok for a while.I will likely run another brace to it. Also ran the fuel line up to the carb, but need to drop in a fuel filter. Picked up my oil for the engine and the ATF for the transmission. Still need to work out what I am doing with the radiator.

Low oil pressure cut off switch, and oil pressure line. Yellow wire to a by-pass switch inside the car so you can start it. Shuts engine down at #12 or #15 oil pressure.

It's Christmas day at the Covalt home. Had a wonderful day yesterday with family, and got a new spool to go in my open rear 3.91's!! Woo Hooo!!

Also decided to put on some header wrap on my headers. I hear conflicting opinions on the wrap so I guess I will let you all know how it works in a year or so. So I had to pull the headers and intake back off (Not a big Job) so I could put a nice wrap job on them. They look pretty nice. I cut in the new fuel filter and remounted the intake/ carb/ linkage for the last time.

I checked out the 2 radiators that I had and both of them had numerous holes in them and seemed like a lost cause. So that Mitsubishi radiator that I have is going in. It is a little wider and requires a filler in the upper hose, but it looks like it will work out well. I'll make a couple brackets for it and take some picture later showing how I made it work. Countdown to start-up!

Merry Christmas to all!

Well,
As I said before, both factory radiators that I had looked like Swiss cheese. And since I like using what I have around, the Mitsubishi radiator will get the nod. The radiator is a 92 Mitsubishi Eclipse unit that was in my sons car that we hauled off to the salvage yard. But I pulled the radiator and fans and under hood wiring that I thought may be of use before it left.

The unit itself is just a tad wide to fit between the frame rails, but just a little hit with the grinder on the pinch weld allowed it to drop right into place.

I looked in my scrap pile and had a piece of thin wall 1/1/2: aluminum angle and ran that across the radiator opening just below the lower mounting bolt. The radiator has 2 studs that stick out the bottom and will set into the hole you see in the aluminum angle.
Image

The radiator did not have a cap built in so I had to buy a filler neck for the upper hose. This is the only thing I had to buy. $15 on E-bay. I used the original slant six upper hose and cut it very short. Then I used a piece off of the Mitsubishi hose to go to the radiator. It lined up perfect.
Image

My new electric fan fit perfectly between the upper and lower tanks. The radiator had a temperature switch in the lower tank and a wiring harness/plug that will be used to trigger my fan relay and power the fan.
Image

Heavy blue wires to run the fan, lighter green/black to the temp switch. Plug will make it tidy.
Image

Original slant 6 hose on the lower tank
Image

Fan & radiator in place.
Image

Made 2 tabs for the top studs and everything is snug in place.
Image

Pressured everything up before adding anything in the system, That way you can soap test everything before you have anti-freeze dripping. Found 2 intake studs leaking and the by-pass hose!
Image

All in all, I guess I'm just a fiddler or a tightwad, take your pick. But I had all the stuff I needed except the filler. A new radiator will probably go in some day, but for now this one will work. I hope!

Rick

Well,

I didn't set myself on fire and I didn't set the car on fire, plus everything works as planned. I guess that is good.

I mounted this aluminum plate to the DS fenderwell next to the battery. I wanted to have access to switched 12V to run any number of things. So the relay on the left is powered off the original ballast resistor blue wire. When I turn on the switch, that triggers the relay and the Blue wire drops 12V onto the terminal strip.

Image

Fuse block mounted to the battery feeds main power to both relays
Image

Relay on the right is my Electric fan relay
Red wire from terminal strip goes inside to my switch panel and goes to my manual off switch, and then returns to the relay when switch is "on"
Black wire on this relay is the ground/trigger for the relay and goes to the temp switch in the radiator. It also tees and goes inside to another switch which is my manual "on" switch for the fan.

I will mount 2 more relays between these two so that I have a permanent backup right next door. Also can use them to power my electric water pump, fuel pumps...etc in the future.

Image
Aluminum panel under dash. Left switch is low oil pressure by-pass used for starting the engine. Empty hole will get my choke cable real soon. Right hand switches are manual off and manual on for the electric fan

Image

New plug wires arrived, and I have the plug for the electronic ignition ordered. So I need to do the final hook-up of my gauges and do some other minor checks and I think I will be ready start this thing up.

Rick

Rick, Mark, I just picked up one of these:A MSD 8222 High Vibration Coil

These can be mounted in any way.... according to instructions & MSD unlike the regular BLASTTER coil.

Good Work Rick.

Thanks Greg, I guess I could switch my coil and HEI module location. Then the coil would be point up.

Early in the week I actually thought I might try and hit the start button over the weekend. But I got sick Tuesday and got worse every day until yesterday. So maybe next week sometime.

Yeah, I'm still sick but made it out to the garage for a few hours.

New choke cable is in. Lights in all my gauges and my tach are wired into the original dash light wire. pulled the rest of the tach wires in and have all the dash ready to go in. I only left it out so I can bleed the air out of the oil pressure line. Hooked up both door switches and installed my dome light.

Waiting for my distributor plug to come. Guess what? I just checked the mail and there were my 2 new plugs. Thanks Dan. So once I wire them in, I will start adding fluids and start cranking on her until I get some oil pressure. Then hopefully she will crank up!!
