Anyone out there have any experience with the aluminum SBP Kelsey Hayes 14 rims slated for 1969 production, but recalled due to liability concearns involving wheel stud failure? For a recalled and supposed all examples destroyed item have run across several over the years. Recently was offered a complete set with trim rings. Any input? Can't deny they sure look cool, but not at the sake of safety.

I've seen them on a couple of 'trailer queens' but never a street driven car.
The recall stemmed from the fact that the lugnuts would come loose or out of torque on them so they felt they'd replace them before someone lost a wheel on turn and the lawsuits ensued...

They are a nice looking wheel...

Wonder if a custom wheel shop could rework them?

I think the problem lies in the lugnuts, not in the wheels. Just get some of the 'new' lug nuts which are made for aluminum wheels. Mopar has been putting them on OEM aluminum wheel apps since around '79. I have them on my wife's '96 LHS, and my '79 300.

With good center caps and trim rings, the A body wheels will sell for over $800. The B body version go for $1500-$2500. This is why you normally see them on show cars only.

Or you could buy these two AR Salt Flat Specials off me for a very reasonable price http://number6.homelinux.net:8080/gallery/album26
and buy two more for a complete set. I took my car by the Bayer Boys here in GA and the first thing Kenny said was "Are those Recall wheels?" No they are new American Racing copies of the Halibrand Kidney Bean wheels. The ones I got were 15x7. I had to buy two more with a custom 4-1/4" backspace to work on the rear of my '65 Barracuda narrow body with a wide 8-3/4 axle to keep the tires from rubbing. They work fine up front however. They have all of 1 mile on them and no damage.
