Don't sell Howard short.

Their Dart was very fast, and was a really well built/beautiful car.

The Davis gang is good people too. :D

Maybe this will motivate Mike to put the Valiant back together.

It's funny that he didn't bother to machine it with any water outlet or accessory bolt holes whatsoever. At least there seems to be none.

When its proven it can beat a Jefferies head and make over 300 sub 12 second passes without issues,I would bee interested,or if a car with his aluminum head takes away any of my records...BIG ports dont get no records.Good combos do.Mikes head and advice got me mine. And his.Mark
It's NOT for sale. They hold the C/Alcohol record with an 11.279 @ 114.22 MPH. I don't think they're interested in any of your records.

He has no intentions of making anymore of these and it is only going to be used for his drag car, so he didn't concern himself with a lot of the factory parameters.

He also runs on alcohol, so that helps take care of some of the heat issue. In fact, he sometimes has trouble getting ENOUGH heat in the engine. His radiator is so small I asked him, "why bother?".

Very cool. If it is CNC'ed, I wonder if he'd be willing to share the CAD/CNC file? I can understand he doesn't want to get involved in making this for others....

Yep, the Davis' are serious folks. They want to go fast (in a pretty heavy car), and don't care about much else!! Has to be admired. Nice folks too! Hope we'll see them at CC and maybe another race.

IIRC, the 114 MPH record passes were with 5.XX rear gears and they were turning 7300 or so in the traps on a 225...

Howard said the Dart Sport weighs 2800.

He also must have said several times, "It's just RPM!" He is definitely not afraid to rev his motors! :D

Very nice guy to hang out with. I didn't want to leave...

I touched on the subject about sharing, but it's a little early still.

He wants to make sure this will work out like he plans first. He did say that it would definitely not be worth doing for customers considering the amount of labor that goes into it.

This set up has the exhaust ports set up to accept a standard header, but the intake is different (larger). It is also set up to use the stock rocker assembly, but a steel plate with the pedestals is needed.

I'll be keeping close tabs with him and plan to go see this thing run when he's ready for an audience. I'll be sure to take a video camera so I can post it on Youtube. :D

Hopefully you can take some high quality pictures and write an article about it once it is up and running. Very cool indeed.

My Mopar comes with spark plug tubes...its a 2.0 Breeze. Hardly a record setter. Im with Guzzi on this, Is it still a class legal slant? Whose gonna be the first to put a Toyota 24 valve OHC JZ head on a slant (cut into 2 halves or 6(!) and welded back together for almost proper bore spacing)?

I believe the rules state Slant 6 block. Can't remember if it's "block configuration" or actual OEM block... It's definitely a Slant 6 in my book, in the same way a BB Mopar is still a BB Mopar with Edelbrock or Indy heads, etc.

Yes, at a certain point, you cannot recognize the engine, but I don't believe any Slanters have ever gotten close to that...

For purposes of these records, this means that the engine must be based on a Slant 6 block. The head may be modified in any way, replaced by one from another engine, or may be entirely fabricated.

Howard has gone about this in the proper way. Build it the way you want it, and to hell with everyone else.

The biggest stumbling block so far to getting a head done (besides money) has been trying to build it by committe, and you can't get 4 people to agree on what it needs to be.

I seem to recall them turning over 7000 with stock rods too.

Just spent 35 minutes on the phone with Howard. Quite an interesting talk too. :D

The real question is " Who will do it next?"

I saw it batted around but didnt know it happened. Hard to adapt a 3 3/4 bolt spacing to a 4.0?

You just use longer bolts and spacers.

Of course the cam drives are a rodeo......

He didn't mention being pestered too much about this, did he? He said I could post it, but I'd feel bad if he regretted allowing me to let the cat outta the bag.
