I would like to get a DIFFERENT T-stat housing for my slant.
I want one where the outlet just goes straight out towards the battery>
instead of going UP towards the hood. The Dart now has a modern aluminum radiator with the water inlet over by the battery. I have found the perfect shaped radiator hose, now I just need a different style of T-stat housing. Inlet dia 2.25 Outlet dia 1.5 Width 3.5 with cast iron material. Any part numbers# etc would be great. thx, jef

Dear Slant Sic Dan. thx for the quick response.
I ordered the part # Four Seasons 84909, and got a stamped alum thin 'made in china' > which is not the one shown in the picture.
Im not going to put something like that on my magic dart.
This is the same part # which I used in my V8 coronet with the '79 engine in it. I want the cast iron part number Four seasons 84909 to fix my car.
Anybody have one ?

OK, here's the latest. I called Bill Luke Chrysler in Phx> and part # 5302 0115 is now the thin stamped piece. NOT the poured Cast Iron piece that it was for yrs. He referred back to the old part # 4100 490 from the 80's and that part is no longer available, they stopped making it. Just FYI>

The last thermostat housing I bought was "Factory Air" from Autozone - wasn't made very well and took me some work with a Dremel tool to make the thermostat fit properly... also, the metal corroded overnight and looked so bad I took it off and painted it and put it back on. I avoid that brand now.

That Four Seasons Part # 84909 referrenced above, thanslates to W3002 in the CarQuest parts house. They ordered some in from 3 different locations and two came back with the proper cast iron construction. YEAH> However, the two mounting holes were too small, so I had to drill them larger so the mounting bolts would go in. At Chrysler, they have a modern stamped junkie looking piece. The one I replaced was 'made in canada' and good. The new one from today says 'made in mexico'

Sometime back, I found one on a early 90's, V6-powered Taurus wagon that sounds like the last one you described. Right size thermo pocket, bolt spacing and hose i.d, but the holes were smaller than the slant uses. It was cast aluminum, though. I did the same thing......drilled for the "right" size bolts, and it works just fine.

Bzzt! 5302 0115 has always been stamped steel. It is more than fine. It is better than cast iron: higher flow and less corrosion-prone. What's yer damage, dude? Buy the damn genuine Mopar steel part and lose sleep over something that matters.

I was really happy to happen upon this thread today as I was looking at my corroded thermostat housing and trying to decide if I should replace it. I got 5302 0115 from the local Dodge dealer and it was identical to the Four Seasons #85181 pictured here. I have no problem with the material/construction of the part - makes sense that it would be superior the cast iron OEM. But there's no recess in the housing to fit the thermostat. You can see a slight raised ridge in the photo there, but it's slight and doesn't even go all the way around the opening. Has anyone run across this before? I'm not sure this part is going to work as it would render the thermostat sloppily sandwiched between the head and the housing. Unless there's another model thermostat I'm not aware of?

Same with my stamped steel themostat housing. Slight recess but is sufficient to do the job. Coat the gasket both side iwth thin coat of RTV while installing the thermostat.

Interesting, Wizard. Thanks for the info. I'll give it a go. The gasket I have is a real thin cardboard-like gasket. Is there a thicker one available that you're aware of? Also, did you have to drill out the mounting holes on the housing slightly?
