Take a look at this thread about a T-5 conversion.

There is also a McLeod M-800 5-speed in the works, bolt-in for mopars, release time unknown. Try Googling it.

Olaf.

Mopar action just had a big write-up on the new 5-speed from passon performance in their June 2011 issue. Its called the A855 and is supposed to bolt right in place of an A833 4-speed without any modifications at all. I just went to their website and they didn't have much info on it and no price as of yet. Hopefully it will be available soon and decent in price. It should be cheaper than Keisler's conversion because yo won't need a "kit" just the tranny.

The price was announced on Moparts a number of months ago, at just over $4k, which is very close to Keisler's, I believe. But both of those are probably not what the o/p is looking for. For a pickup truck I'd suggest looking into a Brownie under/direct/over drive unit.

A NP a535 5 speed should bolt up to a 833od bellhousing. Found in '87 to '92 four cyl. and 3.9 v6 Dakota. 2 and 4 wheel drive. Suprised no one has ever put one behind a slant or may be they have?

If the NP535 has the same bolt pattern as it's cousin the NP435 then "no" is the answer, none line up with the A833, the only thing shared is the 5.125" IBR....I've been looking at a plate to adapt the A-833 to the NP435 bellhousing...3 of the holes the NP435 has miss the A-833 holes...the lower bolt on the driver's side of the tranny has about a 1/4" of an overlap with each other (enough that you'd wallow out one hole to make the other work, but not enough to allow the bolt to provide a useable anchor.

Here's a picture of a bell on ebay. Kinda looks like an 833 pattern or may be a 3 speed?

The pattern is too symetrical, on the A-833 the lower driver's side bolt is out of square, and it's not NP435 either as the pattern looks off on the wrong axis...

I have one of the 11" bell housings from a '80 1/2 ton. It is drilled for two patterns, one is the NP435 and the other, I believe is for the standard 3 speed. The bolt holes on a A833OD align with one of the patterns on top, and the bottom holes are about 1/2" below the bottom lip of the bell housing. So some sort of an adapator would be required to allow the A833OD to bolt on.

Kesteb, would you be willing to part with that bellhouseing? Im in the process of trying to figure out what trans- transfer cases i can get mounted behind a slant. Looks like choices are pretty limited. Would really like to have o.d. as it will be my daily drive, but may have to go with n.p.435 if i cant confirm a 535 will fit. Running 2 wheel drive with 833 now, so either way iwill need new bellhouseing. Is yours aluminum or cast iron. Rooster

The 535 has been adapted to the OD bellhousing by welding up the top ears of the bell and redrilling to match the tranny. The lower bolts lined right up.
This is not the strongest tranny in the world, but as long as you treat it so..
My little 170 loved the gear spread!
