What are the rules covering the back fire plate on a draw through system?

Are there any?

Burst panels and blow-off plates are for positive displacement superchargers. Are you going to use one of those?

Yes. At least as an experiment at this point. The blower I have won't allow draw through, so I've pulled a Holley for modfication to blow through. I need to replace the fuel pump and regulator now.

Ceej, if you need it I can send you my account # and password so you can see the NHRA rulebook online.

I looked and under burst panel I really didn't see much for bracket cars.

Would a blow-off valve from a turbo car do what you want?

I've got my membership paid up through 2014. I didn't see much in the rule book about it.

The Holley 500 is about to go under the vertical mill for some mods. I've got that 390 mechanical and a 600 mechanical as well. Maybe I'll give spud a call and see if we can set up a mechanical injection system out of some of his used stuff.

I really don't like boosting through the carburetor. I haven't started cutting on the 500, but it would be no great loss to the automotive world.

I think I need a plate for the manifold under the carb. I thought the Eaton had an internal backfire release built into it. Does somebody have info on the Eaton M90?

Maybe I'll get some use out of that intercooler yet.

After a phone call with Josh, I think I'll try drawing through the Eaton. That precludes using my inter-cooler, but we'll see how things work. Should be able to run quite a while before the coatings on the rotors fail.

Don't want to go to that much trouble.
I have enough hobbies.

The way the blow off works on these blowers, it will have to be dry.

Got 1/2 the choke tower milled off the 500 Holley. Doing it manually takes a lot of time!

If all else fails, I've found an inexpensive source of 4-71's. They can operate in fuel. Just have to watch my overdrive. I'll contact Offy to see if they have a recommendation for the backfire plate on the slant six manifold. Probably something like, "Get a V8."

Hey Tristan! What did you drill the PV fuel bleeds out to? What jets did you use?

Ceej,

What exactly do you consider to be a "cheap source for 4-71s"?

There's a guy in Eugene that works on Detroit blowers. He's supposed to get back to me on a blower. Once I have a number, I'll let you know.

Word is, he's very reasonable.

I would definitely be interested... and a little afraid.... of breaking parts...

talked to Joe for about a half hour on the phone today. We're discussing direct driving off the crank. He's got a bunch of different options. So far we haven't got much of anywhere! He's recommending making a blow out plate rather than a backfire plate. No moving parts.

We've talked 4-71's, 6v53's and 6v71's. He's got a bunch of 6v53's that are new. We'll see how this comes out. I still haven't got a price out of him. He says he's trying to decide if he wants to be nice to me!

We'll get together in a couple of weeks and go over what we're hoping to accomplish.

go with the 4 71, the 53 series need oil to the end plate, they have no bearings, the v71 series are suppose to be more efficient but harder to mount with angle bolts on the sides.
