I am trying to put the starter back on my truck and have lost the nut and bolt for the install. The engine is an 85 but I am using a starter from an 87 engine. It is a 1987 D-100 with the 3 spd/od. I need the size of the nut for the existing stud and the size for the bolt that will screw into the bell housing. I suspect the stud may be metric but not positive. I purchased the engine minus the starter. The original engine threw a rod so that is where the starter is coming from. Thanks for your help.

Going off memory here since I'm in bed sick. But I believe the bolt and nut are bolt 7/16". Sorry can't remember if its UNC or UNF, but I'd guess UNC.

As for the length of the bolt, I'm sure you can just use a tape measure and guess. Also, if you go a bit over I believe the bolt just comes out the back side of the bell housing.

The starter stud is coarse thread into the bellhousing and fine on the starter side so you need a 7/16-NF nut. The 7/16" NC bolt is about 1 3/4" long.

Thank you all for the response. This will help immensely. I am trying to put this truck back together but is a slow process. After I started the engine swap I had to move to a different shop. Things got mixed together if you know what I mean. I am trying to remember how to remount the shifter and the hydraulic clutch reservoir disintegrated. The truck sat outside in the North Carolina sun with out the hood on for a couple of years before we got it. Everything plastic just crumbled when you touched it.
