I am at wits end with my carburetor, I had it rebuilt twice and the accel pump replaced 3 times and I'm still having problems with it. Everytime it gets fixed the old pump is bad the seal looks all mushy, and I have never used e-85 or anything that could cause it to do something like this, it drives ok when you drive slow but when you punch it, it hesitates till you let off, help

More detail, please. I am guessing from your user name that you have an '83 D150, is that right? With an original-type Holley 1945 (if the truck doesn't have feedback mixture control with oxygen sensor) or Holley 6145 (if it does) carburetor on it? When you say you're "having it rebuilt", what do you mean? Taking it to a carb specialist to have it gone through? Exchanging it for a parts store "rebuilt" carburetor? If there's nothing funky in your fuel, it sounds to me as if whoever is rebuilding your carb has been getting a batch of bad kits.

Definitely need more info. Carter carbs didn't come as factory equipment on '83 slant-6s. If it's a Carter BBS or BBD, with the (usually magenta) leather cup-type accelerator pump, are you oiling and flaring the leather before you install it?

Well, to be honest with you I am assuming it is a Carter Carb as thats what I've been told it was, how to you go about telling the difference between a BBD or BBS? As for oiling I assume thats been done but then again I haven't asked, I will find that

Yup, it's a Carter, a BBD 2-barrel. I had thought '82 was the last year for the Super Six (2bbl package) in trucks, but now that I check the factory parts catalogues the '83s were available with it, as well, and your tag number on the carb (8371) is the correct/original carb for an '83 truck with 2bbl.

Oil-and-flare info is not applicable; these carbs like you have use a rubber accelerator pump plunger cup. If yours is turning into mush, there's something the matter with the cups being installed. Poor quality/wrong material. I have not bought NAPA carb kits for a long time. It is growing extremely difficult to buy good quality carburetor kits. The ones from www.walkerproducts.com are certainly a couple of notches better than the parts store items, and they have a better inlet needle/seat design.
