I still have a few things left on my shopping list for an engine I want to start putting together pretty soon, among them: valve seals.

•VALVES: those EPN 1.70"/1.44" with 3/8" stems that "engnbldr" sells on e-Bay.

•CAM: Isky 152-116 (.448"/.448" lift )

•SPRINGS: Mopar P4286813 (single/damper).

•USAGE: street only

What seals would you guys recommend?

So do I have this right?

intakes are the shorties, e.g.:
•Felpro SS12764, Sealed Power MV 1771

exhausts are taller, e.g.:
•Felpro SS13955, Sealed Power MV1918

And, while we're on the subject, school me on Viton vs. rubber, please.

The other way around on the "tall & short" seals... the tall ones go on the intakes. ( they need less oil)

Get the Viton seals, those last a lot longer.

Boy, what a knuckledhead: was out rummaging in the garage and found some Fel-Pro and ROL gasket sets I'd forgotten I had (which include valve seals). Unfortunately, they all appear to be polyacrylate, not Viton.

Rock auto lists:
•Sealed Power MV1918 as being Viton exhaust valve seals and
•Sealed Power MV1771C as being Polyacrylate intakes.

Doc, got a mfg./part number for Viton intakes, or are they only preferred on the exhaust valves (a far less hospitable environment, I would assume).

I notice that Viton seals seem to be a somewhat controversial topic in some circles. Don't get me wrong: I have nothing but respect for your years of accumulated slant knowledge. However, I have noticed lots of complaints about Viton seals (cracking and leaking) in street engines on other car forums and even here, from Slantzilla (hard on guides?):

This engine of mine will likely not see a lot of high RPMs.

The Poly seals will be fine, use those, they are good to 350+ degrees.
Some of the confusion on Viton seals is that most of the Viton seals are "positive seal" designs, not the umbrella type.

Polyacrylate is the material the factory used for the upgraded valve stem seals in heavy-duty truck versions of the slant-6. Those are the ones I tend to buy.

So I guess the early, OEM ones were nitrile?

Without looking it up, almost certainly yes -- my guess would be nitrile.
