Didn't you say this was a Postal truck? Some government fleet vehicles weren't the same as standard production vehicles in one way or another.

I would have used a belt sander on top of the hex for clearancing instead of bending of the fan. But you do what you must when eating mule meat with no steak sauce... :lol:

Yes. Got it from the Houston USPS in 1975.

The Federal Government had, at that time, mandated that ALL Federal Vehicles HAD to have Emission Controls. Rather than install Emission Controls on the old Postal Vans, they decided to sell them, and get NEW Postal Vans w/ Emission Controls.

Thus there was a whole yard of Chevrolets, Internationals, and Dodge Vans for sale.

I made up a check list, and spent a whole morning grading each Dodge Van in the yard, and finally settled on Lorrie.

Went to the office and told the guy there that I wanted to buy her.

The guy looked up the price, and said: "That will be $1,250.00 just the way it is. No jack, no spare."

I said: "Alright, I be back with the money."

I walked home, and got the cash, and went back.

By the time I got back it was lunch time, and the guy to whom I had talked was gone to lunch, but there was a mechanic tending the counter.

I told him which Van I wanted, and he looked it up and said: "That'll be $750.00, and I'll throw in a jack and a spare!".

I said "OK!" Gave him the money, and off I went! :)

That may be so. Have been told that Ford uses higher grade parts for government fleet (including police interceptor) vehicles than they do in the regular consumer vehicles.

Hey Mr. M,
Actually, the Fan was just barely brushing the top of the Bolt. That's what I meant when I said "ticking" the Bolt Head. The amount of bend done to the Fan was about 1/16th of an inch. I'm sure it will be fine.

I've just about got this mouthful of mule meat all chewed up and swallowed. Am aiming for a Wednesday, March 21, 2012 Start Up Date.

Since it's going to be raining here till then, I'm going to see if I can get rested up for the occasion.

Anyway, thanks for the response.

not sure if its the right size but axle nuts on the front end maybe the right size, I would have to check with my local parts house,and I personally have a few spare crank bolts, I strip slants of usable parts when they hit my local yard, got to know them so well, the call me to give me a heads up when a slanted product arrives lol. Also I was in the same position when I tore down my first slant, I was all what the hell, threaded hole and no bolt, what the duece ??!!! so I bought one and a thick washer and nut from a local plumbing supply house, used a cutoff wheel in my grinder cut the end to length, ground a radiusand ran then nut back and forth a few time to ensure no boogers on the threads. Bolts been a champ across 3 different engines and thousands of miles :)
