As stated in the title, I need to replace my idler arm on my '70, how involved of a job is this? I have heard it can be quite a pain, I've got a lot of slop in it, about an inch or so in any given direction.

Also, do I need to order a new arm? When I was at the parts store they had a Idler arm bushing, but I'm sure someone more qualified than myself can tell me what I need to do exactly.

Thanks,
Seth

I think last time, I used an engine hoist to lift the motor up (after loosening the motor mounts) just a couple inches. That gave me enough room to remove the idler bolt which is installed from the top-down. Don't get any ideas about re installing it from the bottom-up, cause if you did, and the nut vibrated off, your Dart will find another ditch.

I really think the idler has failed prematurely due to A- cheap offshore junk construction, or B- aged ball joints and bushings, in which case you will be throwing money away by just replacing the idler.

Remember, I have a brand new idler with the rest of those parts for you.

Neil

When I had the front end checked they said it seemed like a entire piece of the bushing was missing, I may just pull it apart to look at it and see what the damage is.

If you're on the ball, you drill the bolt above the nut and install a hairpin
as a retainer...no matter which way the bolt is pointed...
