 Post subject: rear end or u joinys?

Hey guys got a couple of questions, recently with in the past couple days i have noticed a vibration in thr truck that isnt suppose to be there, i was told it was either my rear end going out or my drive line u joints going out. when im going through gears it doesnt happen in first but as soon as i get past 20 25 mph i start fill a vibration and also hear a slight clicking or somthing from the rear.(could be just something in the bed of the truck ) just was wonding if you guys could help me out a little, also it does nof vibrate when in nutral, its on my 1985 d150 half ton, 2wd.

First thing to do is get thr rear axlw up on jackstands and check the u-joints. Look to see if you have any rust running out of them.

Put the parking brake on and try to rotate the driveshaft by hand. If there is any play see if it is in the u-joint or if the yoke on the rear is turning.

The u-joint should not have any play in it, the rear will have some. The yoke should not ove up and down though, that is a sign of the pinion bearings going out. The seal leaking is another clue.

Take the park brake off and rotate the shaft. Listen for squeaks and binding. If you're hearing a clicking or popping when driving it may show up now.

while you are under there...check rear oil level...trans also...sounds like u-joints to me, replace both
