Since the cam is out already I'd just have it grooved so long as everything else about the cam is fine.
I'm having a hard time believing the thing made it through break-in without screwing up any of the lifters or valve gear. I imagine it was kind of loud. :?

Take a cut off saw like is used on exhaust systems with a 3 in x 1/8 blade lay cam on table and cut a 1/8in groove in the center of rear journal, I rolled the cam and held the saw steady, get someone to roll the cam while you work the saw if you have to, dosn't have to go to machine shop

i 2nd this.. it doesnt have to be pretty, but with a steady hand, and someone with the know how, can make it look just as good... just make sure there are no burrs after you are done, a quick polish job with some real fine grit paper and your good to go..

quick question, do all factory slant six cams come with the grove? weather its hydraulic or solid?

i ask because ive come to realize i never actually looked at the cam that i recieved from oregon cams, if it had a grove or not, i honestly cant remember.

im going to call and double check with oregon to see if they use only stock cores or whatnot

Here is an option:
Install a fitting that leads into the lower - rear head bolt hole and use an external line to feed oil into the bolt hole.
Basically... by-pass the rear cam bearing & journal.

Is the back boss on the oil gallery tapped?
If not, you can "T" into where the oil pressure sender screws into the oil pump.

Thanks once again Doc , i haven't looked to see if the boss is tapped , but will .
Down here in Australia , our oil pressure senders screw into the top of the remote oil filter holders , if you know what i mean .
