For one brake is sPelled right but like you said wrong one. I did reAd all replies carefully you say use a light weight oil another said use what ever oil I am going to use another said use brad Penn and then someone else said use a addative. So which one is it?

I am not a fan of Lucas products. Brad Penn is a proven performer, but it's not the only thing which will get the job done. People have lost cams and lifters because of the reduced zinc (ZDDP) in the newer energy conserving oils. You can supplement these oils with an additive like the one Comp Cams sells like Doug suggested or use a different oil. Valvoline Racing has plenty of ZDDP and comes in 10W-30 which I would use. It should be easier to find than Brad Penn.

If the cam and lifters were previously broken in successfully and are in the same block then you have a lot less to worry about.

A slant six with stock valve springs is not that tough on parts or oil, but Clifford may have sold needlessly heavy springs.

The most important thing is to put oil back in the engine after you drain it. Especially if you intend to drive the car afterwards.

The problem with spell check, Dan, is that it would not have detected that particular error. Brake, and Break both would be approved. I cannot spell either. Dyslexics "Untied". That is the name of a very large support group I belong to.

Last time I assembled an engine I dipped the pistons with rings in a 50/50 mix of STP goo and the oil I was going to use.

Diesel spec oil probably is all you're going to need. Spending money on over priced specialty crap is IMO silly. Do the factories do it? No.
