Hi new and new to internet so be kind got a 73 dart custom all original 36k miles new cap rotor plugs wires 91 octane new fuel pump clean tank new lines filters clean carb excreta I can't hardly step on it from dead stop with out it wanting to die. springs in the distributor??

Regular fuel should be fine.

Lashed the valves yet? Done a tune up? You should have spark plug tubes. Did you remove the crush washers from the plugs? What spark plugs did you install? New wires and such?

What condition are the vacuum hoses in? Have you checked for vacuum leaks at the manifold and around the carburetor yet?
Sitting as much as that car must have, I'd be surprised if the gaskets were in very good shape. Depending on storage, the timing chain may be shot too. Do a search on testing timing chain or some variation like that on this forum.

Does the carb's accelerater pump work? Do you see a strong shot of fuel when you "crack" the throttle?

Is the vacuum advance "pod" woking on the distributor?

Where is the ignition timing set?

1973 was the first year for a particularly nasty device called the OSAC valve, which was installed to squeak the cars past the newly-tightened Federal emissions type approval tests so the new 1973 cars could be offered for sale. You will find the OSAC valve on the passenger side of the firewall, with one hose connecting it to the carburetor and the other hose connecting it to the distributor. Bypass this valve so one hose runs from the carburetor to the distributor, and acceleration and driveability will get a great deal better with no negative consequence.

That said, there still may be repairs needed. Check the ignition timing with the vacuum advance hose disconnected from the distributor and plugged; for a decent initial setting put it at 2½Â° BTDC. Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread. The engine will need periodic valve adjustment. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download.

This car should be run on regular gasoline, not premium, which is a waste of money at best.
