Hi, does anyone run or have experience with a super 6 set up? I have a 67 D100 truck with auto trans and 225 and a complete super slant 6 set up i purchased a few years back from a volare or aspen and am wondering what type of gains if any I would feel on the pickup?

Second choice is to drop in a 1956 desoto 331 hemi in the truck I have just rebuilt but my drothers would be the leaving the original 225 if I can get a few more ponies and foot pounds of torque out of her.

You MIGHT feel a bit of diference, but it wouldn't be as much as what a v-8 would do for it... I am not familiar with the specs of the DeSoto Hemi...

Its a 15 to 20 HP difference but realize... more cfm = more RPM...
Off idle and lower RPM power "feels" about the same.

Keep in mind the 331 weighs in at 720#

The '56 could be anywhere from 250 to 300 hp in most trims. You can get 200 to 250 from a modified slant six, at just over half the weight.

Choices! A Firedome would look really cool in the pickup!

I can only report that I did both a Super Six swap AND went to Dutra Duals at the same time, and the difference was VERY noticeable at ALL speeds. Maybe that speaks more to the condition of my previous 1bbl set-up and tiny stock exhaust, but I was very pleased with the results. Not like dropping in a V-8, a big improvement nonetheless.

I'm not sure which made the difference. I made sure my ports were lined up, and took a lot of time doing it, made sure that when the exhaust expanded they still wouldn't cover the ports. Stock, untouched 70k mile head. I also switched to a 2bbl at the same time.

The low end difference is phenominal. I think it was clearing up the exhaust ports mostly and making certain that it fit. I think it will do even better when I get a 2-1/4 pipe to my muffler. But I'm sure the super six helps somewhere too. I haven't driven it enough to tell for sure but I think I'm getting great mileage.

The Desoto 331 hemi is near the bottom end of Hemi Higherarchy. Parts are exspensive and not readily available. I found a 240 Hemi for $400, it is the bottom of the ladder of Hemis, I did not buy it but a buddy of mine did. If your ride is a no hood, show off the motor truck, no other motor how the WOW factor as a Hemi. If your looking for a ride that you can drive have fun and somewhat economical, the six. Don't get me wrong. I have a 225 with twin 1940's atop an offenhauser. Dual carbs are cool as well. If I can talk a friend out of one of his 396 Hemis, my little 63 valiant will beat the dog snot out of all the Hondas around here.

Seat of the pants difference was very noticable in my 63 Dart. I would have loved to do the same in my 71 truck I had. I wanted to use a bit stouter 436 cam with the Dutra Duals. Would be good I think. Ad to that the wow factor of Dual carbs or even Trips, a little nice paint, BOOM, you got it.
The other thing to do is to cut the head and use Ford V-6 valves for better flow. Easy stuff for a qualified shop.

My super six took my wagon from bieng passed all day long by everyone in California to easily keeping up with traffic. It was noticable and with tuning made better gas mileage too.

I put a 2 barrel on my truck and it does make a world of difference in just how it feels to drive. Headers or Dutra Duels would improve it that much more. I lost no MPG either.

I just finished the conversion (minus the 2 1/2 exhaust) and put in a converter with a 2400 stall and the difference is VERY noticeable. Lots more low end torque and freeway driving was much more powerful. All around more power for my 67 Dart!
